Clay bar pics
Well I used it for the first time ever. It is AMAZING! While you drag it over the car you can hear it pulling stuff out of the paint. I was able to pull off road tar and these annoying water spots I had on the trunk and hood. During the process I snapped these two pictures.
On the LEFT is the dirty side, on the RIGHT is the side I used the clay bar.
Same thing here, just up close. In the middle is the liquid you use with the wax.
There actually is a slight tone difference between the two. I washed my car with a powerwasher and car soap before I clayed, and the water coming off after the claying was filthy! I used a Mothers California Gold kit. Here is the outcome, worth every penny.

Looks great! Claying a car gives a great base to polish and wax from. Give that mariner a good couple coats of Meguiars NXT or Zaino and it'll REALLY shine.

That's the kit I use.

Clay bars are the ****!
I've been expirimenting with waxes as well. My Miata had the factory white-paint-peel bullshit and was repainted in about '96 using the high quality Maaco special. It's been a huge challenge keeping the paint up. It started to peel and flake around the edges and seams about 5 years ago and I'm doing everything I can.
I just tried the Meguires Cleaner Wax... I've gotta say it's the best thing I've tried... and I've tried, literally 20 different waxes over the years. A nice once-over with the clay bar and two coats of that stuff has it looking as good as it has in years.
