Changing Your Tranny Fluid?'s
Hey guys tommorow im going to be changing my tranny and diff fluid and I had a ? , tranny and diff fluid are they the same? the guy at napa said I would only need 3 quarts of 80-90 tranny fluid to do both the trans and diff, Im wondering since it says in" miata performance hand book that I need 2qts tranny fluid and one quart diff fluid....so are they the same...to be honest this is my first time changing the tranny fluid.

you can use both SAE 75W-90 or SAE 80W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube in either.

The factory spec for both is pretty much the same. I think maybe they recommend 80w90 for the diff under certain conditions, but it's harder to find 80w90, and you don't need it.
Just use a 75w90 GL-4. Three bottles total will do both if you don't spill too much. Mobil1 75w90, Redline MT-90, Royal Purple Max-Gear, take your pick.

every time I use Redline, I get notchy crap shifting. I have MT-90 in the car now and it sucks *****. I had Amsoil synthetic in before and loved it. Time to try something else. Rican, it's only a few thousand miles if you want my leftovers
