Can't start new engine - No spark
1993 1.8 with 99 head.
Hi guys,
First attempt at starting my new forged engine tonight and I was bricking it. I'm getting oil pressure and the engine is turning over, which is good but I've got no spark. I'm running Toyota COPS which previously worked, which makes me think it's either a problem with a ground or I've snagged a cable dropping the engine in.
Obviously I don't have a coilpack anymore, so that's been ruled out, and all 4 of the coils don't make a spark plug 'spark' which leads me to believe they all can't be faulty.
The thing that immediately springs to mind would be a grounding problem. I've looked at the loom and it splits in two and is something like this:
section 1 goes to - coolant temp sensor, water temp gauge sensor and coilpack
section 2 seems to go to the injectors
There's an earth here, and I've got it bolted to a spare threaded hole under the EGR hole (which I have blanked off). Is this where this ground should go?
Does any have any suggestions for me to check as to why I have no spark?
I've checked the Megasquirt and the Dwell settings are set correctly (3.5 and 2.5 at 12v).
So close to hearing the engine fire up so it's pretty frustrating.
