Broken AC compressor mount bolts
Hello again everyone. My AC compressor recently started making a knocking sound when it engaged. After investigation I found the bolt that it pivots on had backed out. I tried reinstalling it with no avail. After getting dirty some more it seems the bolt broke off inside the block. The bolts attached to the bracket that supports the compressor have all broken inside the block as well, leaving the belt and coolant lines as the only things supporting the compressor. I have removed the belt and attached the compressor to the fender for now, but I am having difficulties figuring out why all of this happened. I don't want to extract the broken bolts and replace them to have it all break again. The engine is a short nose 1.6, I know that failure usually involves the keyway, but could the snout have bent a bit, causing oscillations in the belt tension that over time could have fatigued the bolts? Worst case scenario is that I remove the AC from the car and simplify plumbing, but I was hoping to test the AC with the new hard top I purchased. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
