axial play
1) Is 1mm axial play on a journal bearing turbo acceptable?
2) Will a rebuild fix this?
3) What else do you look for when buying a used turbo?

I would think 1mm would be too much play. A rebuild will fix a journal bearing turbo unless the housing is damaged.

Is this a dry turbo, or a turbo that has recently had oil pumping through it?
A dry turbo will easily have that much play

It's dry.
Won't a dry turbo only affect radial play. Not axial, right?
