'97 Extra Wires. Why?

Replacing a motor on a '97 and found after-produced wire running from one of the back studs of the starter to a chassis ground and then a motor ground. It is about a 12 awg wire.
I can perceive no rational reason, but it was nicely done. Anyone think of a reason why? Attempt at noise suppression?
