95 intake manifold into msm ?
#10
I've only worked 01 and above miatas. Never worked on the early 1.8 engines and I was wondering if these parts were interchangeable. Plus the msm intake manifold is restrictive due to the second butterfly system. I've eliminated this system before in cars that I worked on and gutted the upper and lower plenum and I've seen great results but involves a lot of work. Just wanted to see if there was a cheaper way to get power and flow

Gutting the plenum in an MSM or 01+ intake mani produces nothing but wasted time and effort. Removing the vtcs butterflies might be a marginal improvement, if only because they make life miserable until the car warms up. Bottom line is you're not gaining power from doing this. You can buy a squaretop or use a 99-00 mani and wire in the vics solenoid. Taht should gain you a couple hp and both bolt right up. Pre-99 intakes wont work

low end torque is improved with better velocity.
peak/top end flow is improved with plenum volume.
hogging out the plenum and runners increases volume and decreases velocity.
there are numerous dyno plots on miata's proving this
or do you have an actual explanation and testing to prove otherwise?

Hopefully next year they'll move back out of the catacombs and to a spot that's more easily accessible. But all in all, it was a Saturday well spent. (I don't think I'll ever get the taste of cotton candy out of my tail...)
