PS3 or XBOX 360?
#7
PS3. Blu-ray will hopefully beat out HD DVD in a few years (looks like it may be heading that way).
It's also cheaper if you take into account that it comes with wireless built in and Blu-ray. HDMI port too. I think a 360 would cost about 650$ to have the same capabilities.
on the downside there arent hardly any games out yet for it. GT5 comes in october or november.

360 works well as a media manager (a friend of mine is doing it)
and is kick *** as a xp media center extender (i do that)
i'd get the elite at $450 and then the hd drive at $179 if desired
the elite has on board hdmi and a 120gb hd
i have one of the original 360 premiums. i've not had a problem, but others did have issues with the first gen equipment. microsoft increased the warranty duration for 2 years for the launch systems. don't know if that applies to the new systems as well though.
i wouldn't get too caught up in blueray vs hddvd. both are eventually going to loose out, but both are pretty kick *** for now and have a good selection of titles. a lot of new movies are coming out on both. blockbuster is carrying some hddvds now too.

I have an XBOX 360, great games. Horrible console. My original xbox was a tank, never crashed, never any issues whatsoever, same as everybody else I know with one.
The 360 however, EVERYBODY has some sort of issue with theirs , ranging from scratching games (wtf!) to 3 rings of death, to blah blah blah.
Thank you QA department at microsoft.

Having worked at GameStop all summer I have to say without a doubt go wiht the 360. Ben pointed out alot of the things that the 360 has that puts it on par with the ps3, but there is more. The HD-DVD player is usb on the 360. That means it will also plug into your computer and let you rip movies. PS3 with blueray cant do that. As for the warrenty on the 360 it has been extended to 3 years from when you buy the system. While yes the 360 might break Microsoft has been very very good at replacing them with out asking questions.
For games the 360 wins hands down. Not a single thing is out on the PS3 that is better then its copy on the 360. The 360 also has a ton more exclusives at this time. The only game coming out for ps3 that is an exclusive worht buying is GT5 and currently that has no ETA on when it will be out. Every other game you will want on the 360.
I will admit that the hardware wise the PS3 is a much better system, but sony compeltely messed up its launch. the PS3 wont start to shine for another 2-3 years in which it will start to blow 360 away. The only problem with that is Sony has set them self up to have to keep the PS3 around for the next 8-9years. This gives microsoft a big advantage that in 5 years it can drop a new console that will destroy the ps3 and their isnt much that Sony can do about it.

Does the media extender play all types of codecs?
And is the xbox wireless?
(basically I have a media server, and I would like the console to grab TV, music, and movies and play it on my tv)
