Inferno is quite annoying on some packs, like the shielding, extra hp, walling, invulnerable, and extra fast. They literally can't be killed..... I got to Belial in A2 before I gave up on inferno, lol.

Buddy and I just finished A1 Inferno last night - He's frustrated that everything he buys/equips/specs is based on survivability and that he's only running about 6k DPS because of it; that's usually about the time I tell him to calm down a bit, the fact that he can survive most elite/champion spawns as a damage sponge for 20-30 seconds means that I can usually stand back and get my full 37k DPS on targets unless the targets are mortar-launchers, in which case I have to run between arrows to not die.
I tell him to stop being frustrated that his DPS is so low - when I mention that anything other than a spiderling will one-shot me at this point, he decided that he's "content" with his current character.
We did skip our first elite spawn ever last night - had a pack of 4 "fast - illusionist - mortar - waller" in a tight dungeon area, all 4 of them would constantly spam the illusion spell. The walls were blocking my high-dps AOE, and there wasn't really a good way to get around the walls. At most, we could take out two iterations of illusions before we wiped. Eventually he died, I kited towards the entrance, then I respawned on his corpse, and we continued forward.

Got half way through A3 inferno and decided I need to rethink my spec or gear.
Tell your monk buddy that he still has hope, as it looks like some of the higher progression inferno monks are actually starting to run full DPS instead. Basically run enough tank stats to not get 1 shotted, then run as much dmg as possible. He'll be banking on doing as much damage during serinity and blind, then kiting till those cd's are back up again.
I now farmed up a set of full damage gear, but drops my resist to next to nothing. It works, but if I ever get caught in a damage puddle or mortar, it's instant death.
One of my friends just got his barb slightly geared so we might bring him along to A3 for his shout. My stats with his shout are quite good (buffed stats: 60k hp, 600 resist all, 8k armor, 48% dodge).

What class do you play? There's a big gear difference between A2 hell and A3 hell. Bosses have been dropping decently for me with a 5-stack Valor buff .

So patch preview for 1.03 was released and it looks like loot will be buffed and inferno slightly balanced. Removing the dmg modifier for groups, which will help monks a lot.
My monk can currently tank A3 and A4 without any issue, but can't kill (I trade my dps for tank stats), however, when I join a party, I still die since mobs do so much more damage in a full group.
I can plow through A1 and A2 inferno quite easily in dps build.
