Battlefield 3 pc check in
#25
I went through the same PC overhaul about a year ago. My 550wpsu from 2001 had like all its amps on the 5v and 3.3v rail, making it nearly useless for upgraded cpu/gpu. My 6yr old amd board was compatible with phenom2 x4, and it'd run, but really unstably, just wasn't able to provide enough clean juice.
its worth upgrading imo, pc games nowadays tend to be console ports, so hardware doesn't go outdated very fast anymore.

Look at Crysis 2 on xbox, best looking xbox game yet and no video lag. Better engines run good on slow computers now.

I'll be playing the **** out of this. Been playing the beta, came out yesterday.
For those who are concerned about their machines, you can build a good rig for cheap. Check out the new i3 sandy bridge processors. Cant beat em for their price, they benchmark higher than last generation i5 quad cores in most games. Processor was 115 bucks, motherboard about the same. Video card, im rocking a gtx460 and its butter smooth. You can build a machine that can play this game for less than $400.00.

Really? That sucks.. I pre ordered it about a month ago id say. You have to DL it through origin, good thing is its only about 4gb for the beta so its not that bad. Otherwise I didn't do anything special to get access that I know of.

I bought a HD 6950 2GB just for BF3. Gonna probably pick up another in a few months. The rest of my rig is feeling pretty dated...Core 2 Duo 2.1 @ 3.4GHz and 6GB ddr2. Good thing for overclocks. Had to buy a new psu for the 6950 as well.
If we has mt.net vent server and people playing, I'm definitely down for killing some Saturday nights on BF3.....perhaps we could even have an mt.net BF3 server...Rick? ....Russian IT guy who buys all the parts for awesome miata builds and then sells them all at a loss? ...other IT guys?

I used to be in to overclocking/case modding and hence have a rather badass watercooling system that has been running for 3.5 years straight with -ZERO- maintenance. I never even topped it off. E8400 @ 4.1ghz and a 8800gt @ I dunno... I stopped caring about PCs right after I built it.

I'm not so sure about budget overclocking setups. I know the new I5's are oc friendly, but i dont know much more than that. I will tell you my new i3 2150 3.3ghz sandy bridge processor is WAY faster than my old overclocked e5200 which was at 4.3ghz stable. Core clocks dont mean everything you know, just look at some current benchmarks for these new sandy bridge intel processors and you can see they blow everything else out of the water.. for now.
I'd probably still wait on bulldozer release before pulling the trigger on anything.

You know I'm in.... origin name = flier129
My gtx 460 fermi should run it fine on my 32', hopefully my e6750 clocked @ 3.4ghz (for 4 years tehe) will hold out. Thinking about picking up 8gb of ddr3 memory cause..... well it's only $45 muthafuckn' bucks!
