User Tagging, Infinite Scrolling, and You
Sorry for all the confusion but the style changes were making way for several improvements on the site.
Infinite Scrolling on Desktop
Instead of needing to click "Next" in a thread to read additional pages, you will see a layout that automatically loads the next page of a thread as you scroll. We've also updated a few other parts of the layout so they remain easily accessible while you read, including access to thread search, a button to jump to the first unread post, and a Quick Reply box that lets you type a reply while scrolling through the thread content.
*******If you would like to keep the standard thread view with separate pages, or simply want to remove related threads, head to the User CP > Edit Options page and simply disable “Infinite Scroll” or “Related Threads.”
Unified Uploader for Attachments
The absolutely ancient method of attaching files one by one is gone! You can now drag and drop an entire folder of images and files into the same uploader to embed them in a post.
Lazy Loading Images
Any images that have been uploaded to MiataTurbo and posted in a thread will initially load at a smaller, compressed size before coming into focus. This should drastically improve the load times on pages that have a ton of images.
New Buttons
The "Reply" and "New Thread" buttons are colored to stand out so that new users can find them.
There is also a new "Subscribe" button to make it easier to follow a thread. There are new social share icons on the top right of a thread page that are bolder and look more uniform than the older buttons that were often ignored.
Lastly, we have user tagging! The tagging works similar to most major social platforms and you simply need to type the "@" symbol on desktop or mobile, followed by the first two characters in their username. The site will then bring up a dropdown to suggest names as you type:
It will then link to the user's profile in the post and send them a PM:

Thanks for the ability to turn off infinite scroll/etc.
Can we please add the old theme back to the preferences box? The black lines everywhere are really ugly and the horizontal space stolen from the thread titles means that most of them wrapping, are sometimes onto a third line.

No, I don't use the mobile site. I tend to use a pretty wide browser window on a laptop (most of the width of my MBP display).
I can't load the old theme to do a direct comparison and I don't have any screenshots lying around, but I distinctly remember having fewer wrapped thread titles. Looking at the current theme, perhaps it's spreading out extra space between multiple columns (including those that don't need it), rather than preferentially putting it into the thread title column?
It does seem a little silly to have all that blank space in the "last post" column (and others) while wrapping text in the thread title one.

@IB Nolan, When using the new posts button, can we have the "The threads below have not been updated since your last visit but still contain unread posts." line be highlighted blue, like the Normal threads vs Sticky threads lines (see your own screen shot in post #10 for an example of the blue highlighting).

@IB Nolan, the black lines forming a grid in pretty much all views are kind of visually distracting as compared to the old presentation, but aside from that, the forum is not totally broken. In IB terms, I consider that a win.
EDIT: And, of course, the new "easy" UTAG feature is not easy. Let me try this again: @IB Nolan. Ok, that worked. I see that I have to press Enter after doing an @ tag in order for it to work.

Better than before. FB and Vimeo are yes, generic html embed is no.

@sixshooter
Then you're doing it wrong.
@Joe Perez
Pressing enter after selecting your taggee is pretty standard.
@IB Nolan
While I'm tagfest '18, and while you're checking on column widths, would it be too much to ask to make all the left hand user detail columns be the same width? for example, your big *** user image pushes the column out for your post only and then it misaligns with everyone elses.

Working on a plan to get videos embeds back on the site. Talking to them about various column widths.
I believe the avatar was designed so that we didn't have to shrink some folks image, people complained in early testing. But I'll see if there is a better solution.
What say you all on the removal of black lines? See forum index and post example below.
