@Robb M.

If I insert that specific set of image tags, with the .jpg? file type to prevent your server from re-uploading my image as its own, and I click on "Preview Post", everything looks great. I then click on "Post" and it breaks the link. I don't need to expand on the sheer stupidity of "preview" not showing the same thing as the post it previews

It is impossible to fix that post now, by the way. I have to delete this entire thread and re-post it without selecting "preview" first if I want to un-**** that link with the .jpg? file name.

I also can't fix it by selecting "source" and writing my own image bracket code, which is just ******* stupid.

Please fix all of this

I'm confused on your order of operations here. Why are you manually appending stuff to the URL before attempting to post it in IMG tags?

For my own reasons, I'm not a fan of having every image re-uploaded and hosted on IB's servers. The only way to prevent your servers from detecting the .jpg link and doing that is to add a ? at the end. So I amend the URL to add that.

There's no issue if I just do that and then hit "post", but on my big long ZF6 pictoral thread I just posted in Drivetrain, I wanted to make sure all the images worked, were in the right order, etc. So I hit "preview", and it all looked perfect, and then I hit "post" and every single image link broke. I have no idea why "preview" doesn't mean exactly that, but that's what happens.

I just tried it again and got the same thing - the preview looks fine, but the link breaks between "preview" and "post". I also can't fix it now, even if I go into the source HTML and manually add the [/img] at the end.

If I just hit "quick reply" or "post", it works fine - as below. On the below image, I added my own image tags and appended the URL, but I never hit "preview" for this post.

ok, thank you for taking the tine to explain it. I am seeing the same thing. Going to preview from advanced reply and then submitting that as a reply adds a url tag to anything within img tags. this is also broken on other communities. I'll flag this and hope it can be addressed in short order.

I am also somewhat confused. If you check the image address of the two Mars images I posted, they are not hosted on IB servers?

At some point in the past, IB started scraping and re-hosting all images that were hotlinked from other sources. I don't recall when this was, but it wasn't recent. I started adding the ? to my URLs at that point to prevent my images from being re-hosted.

Here's a quick reference of that:

Joe's post #10 is the workaround I use to prevent it from happening to me.

e: Both of your mars images are still hosted on imgur servers as of 8:48pm PST 12/1/18

so, i’m going to suggest if you want to defeat the automatic IB upload, rather than editing the url, enter the img tags manually instead of using the image upload button.

does this serve your ultimate goal without creating additional heartache?
