Default What to do with this JE piston?

The picture doesn't really show it, but on the bottom half it is scuffed a bit and it DID remove some material off of the top of it. So whats to come of this 3k miles JE piston? Are they salvageable, can it get machined down slightly and be use able? Rings look great as do the other 3 pistons..

Threw a rod right through both sides of the block:

Thoughts, suggestions, comments?

who built that? those pistons don't look like 9.0:1. What rods did you run?

My car should be done Friday, after almost 9 months of being down, and now with all these threads popping up, I'm scared to start it...

I've already warned you ******* once, no more blowing your **** up! I know RotorNut is shitting himself, and my build isn't far away, and its not making me feel very good either. My goal was like 250, then someone blew up and it dropped to 230, then another and 220, then 200, then 180, now maybe I'll shoot for 150 Maybe I'll just hook a straw to the intake and blow into the intake when I want a few extra HP.

nothing in that picture suggests that the piston is junk.
can you rock the piston back and forth in the cylinder did it have alot of piston slap?
the machine shop that bores your next block should be able to tell you if they can be used again or not also, my bet is that they can.
dont be worried about those lil nicks on the tops of em, my buddy cut valve reliefs in his mustang mod motor pistons with a dremel tool and it made 759whp and ran for longer then any 700+hp 2v mod motor iv ever seen.

were u using stock rods?

Or you could buy one of those "electric superchargers" being offered on ebay

I wouldn't use that piston again for anything but an ashtray.

It has obviously struck the head judging by the marks in both quench areas and will have micro-fractures throughout the forging. You cannot subject something as delicate as a piston to an impact like that and expect it to provide reasonable service life in a normal vehicle, much less in a 7000 rpm engine. Even less in the higher stress environment of a forced induction engine. You are already taxing the operational limitations of the design without damaged parts.

My guess is you will likely have a failure near the point where the wrist pin connects to the piston from my experiences with other engines and head strikes.

gtx rods

I wont be using the piston again, nor do i smoke so it wont be an ash tray

The shop i had build the motor, i bought it pre built from them and was told they were 9:1 pistons.

WTF do i do with 3 good JE pistons? Should i contact JE and get another to put into a new motor or scrap them all?

Edit: The motor stayed running for no more than 3-5 seconds once the rod craped out. I assume the other three are still good.

Edited a second time to remove the shops name.

Woah. Not super rods but still upgraded. Any idea what happened? Suspicions? There are an awful lot of failures happening. I was feeling pretty good about my car until the last month. Now I'm thinking of turning down the boost!!! I can't imagine running it with less power now.

If I wanted a slower car I'd just go buy a Cayman S, get more respect and call it good.

Did you build a motor? I'm scared too but I don't know of anyone popping motors on the internet popping CAT/ETD/Probe rods...yet. I've seen lots and lots of Mazda rods die though.

It looks like I'm the lab-rat for built turbo motors on the track. I'm going to be incredibly pissed if I pop this motor in the first year. I can't turn the boost down either...gt2860rs overboost pwns me.

Stock 94 motor! Currently running 12psi. Dyno'd on a mustang at 241 rwhp at just under 11psi. I've got 4 or 5 track days on it and 15K road miles. Now I'm thinking it's a time bomb! Arrrgggghhhhh.......
