Default VVT'ing an NA8 for a First Go at Standalone Tuning

Just wanted to get some opinions on the viability, ease, and potential blow-up-in-your-face-ness factor for swapping an NA8 engine to VVT at the same time I add a MS or Speeduino? Seemed that if I was going through the trouble of tuning, etc. before I eventually go down Turbo Ave. I may as a well swap to a VVT head to get rid of some annoying lifter tick and free up a smidgen of power at the same time.

Is this do-able/advisable? I'm a complete tuning amateur, but this silly engineering degree collecting dust over here must be good for something eventually...

Also, in terms of price, is $350 a reasonable price for VVT head, '99 Intake, and everything else I need for the swap?

Thanks for the help!
