VVT Swap Startup Help
Hello all,
Yet another VVT swap thread - I apologize for adding to all the info already out there. I have a '96 chassis with a newly swapped EUDM VVT engine from a NB2 (not sure of the year). Squaretop IM, DIY intake with MAF delete, RB header. Completely stock engine other than those bolt-ons, still NA. I'm using MS3PNP for engine management.
I've completed the swap, got everything wired in and working properly, run all the lines, etc. etc. That's about where my expertise runs out because I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to using TunerStudio. Right now I'm using a basemap for a 01-05 Miata from trubokitty. The MS3 came with a 96-97 basemap because that's my chassis, so I overwrote it when I pulled the 01-05 basemap. As it sits with that basemap, the car will crank and occasionally sputter a bit but nothing more than that. I am getting RPM signal and it lights up green saying RPM synced so I'm assuming (?) that the crank and cam sensors are wired properly. I also assume I'm getting spark because of the sputters and I know I'm getting fuel because AFR drops when I'm trying to get it started.
The only missing link right now, as far as I can tell, is that I'm not getting any signal from my wideband. The wideband gauge itself is reading correctly but TunerStudio shows 7.30 no matter what. I have an AEM 30-0300 wired into CANH and CANL (AEMNET + and -, respectively) but I have no idea how to setup the MS3 to read the wideband using CAN.
All of that said, I have a few questions if anybody could be kind enough to help or give me ideas:
1. How do I setup TunerStudio/the MS3 to read the wideband signal through CAN? I am running 1.5.1 so as far as I know, the MS3 should support it. I've got the wiring down but I don't know what settings I have to change in TS.
2. Is it correct to run the 01-05 basemap for the swap? Is there anything chassis-specific I need to change in TS before the car will start?
I attached a composite log because I know that can be helpful for diagnosis, unfortunately I have no idea how to decipher that information and I can't find a guide or anything online. Hopefully it's a helpful piece of information as to why I can't get the car to start.
I have read myself dizzy but there is a good bit of conflicting information out there and applications vary project to project. Any kind of information here would be extremely helpful, in the meantime I'll continue to read TS user guides and see if I can get anything going.
Thank you in advance!
