Default Turbo Build

I recently purchased a 1995 Miata with 60,000 miles for $4k. Everything on the car is in perfect working order. I've had the car for about a year now and decided its time for a change. I am looking to build a turbo engine. If anyone can lead me in the right way of where to start. What kind of turbo kit? What should I do to the engine to support the turbo? Anything will help. Looking to get around 200 whp or more if possible.

Budget isn't an issue really. I work two jobs so have good income. My plan is to buy parts with each paycheck. Just need some direction towards parts and what to do.

No electronics FM2 kit with a MS3.

Enjoy.

The kit I've been looking at is the 1994-95 Voodoo turbo system from FM. I'm new to turbo systems. How much whp does this push out and how much can the stock 95 engine take before upgrades need to start happening?

Don't screw around with the Voodoo system.

MegaSquirt, Adaptronic, or one or two other systems. Just don't screw with the bandaids.

Any popular websites that sell the kits you mentioned? Do those kits bolt to the stock engine or what may need done to support the turbo?

Noticed your last post. when you say FM2 with MS3. Is that the 1994-95 Voodoo II turbo system from FM with MegaSquirt?

You will want to do some basic research on this site, ASAP. Those are basics of basics covered in detail throughout the FAQs and other information prominently posted.

And no, that's the electronic-less FM2 kit, but yes, with a megasquirt. The Voodoo kit is a piggyback bandaid that you'd pay extra $$$ for and not use with a MS.

FM. Sounds like you don't want to do much fab work? Your engine is good to 250ish tq, and the transmission is good to 225ish. After that you need forged rods for 300ish tq, and a 6spd for 400ish tq. Those figured are probably +/-25 torques.

BEGI also supplies "DIY" kits, which are the turbo, manifold, and downpipe. After that all you need is intercooler pipes connecting the compressor to the throttle body, larger injectors, and that new fangled MS thing we keep talking about.

NO. The voodoo box is considered a "bandaid". Instead of fixing the problem of boosting with a stock ECU, bandaids cover it up, fooling the stock ecu or changing it's outputs to work with the increased fuel and air requirements a turbo presents.

We're talking this kit:
http://www.flyinmiata.com/index.php?...%20BLK%20GAUGE
for $350 less.

And then adding a megasquirt to COMPLETELY replace the stock ecu, either a MS3 (the best) built by a member for $600(?) or one like this:
http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/m...1f2d5bd95194bc
For $800. That's a MSII. The MSI PNP units were around $500 last I checked, although I think they stopped making them when the genII MSPNP came out.

Do A LOT of searching. You seem to learn fairly easily, but we can't do all the work for you, read the stickies in the DIY turbo section, and look at A LOT of build threads, they'll help you a lot.
