Something Wrong With These Injectors? *Pics*
Hi all. A while back I bought some used Fuel Injector Clinic 900cc injectors. They were a different fitment (Porsche I think), but I contacted FIC and they indicated a few o-rings/new bumper would make it fit my Miata. Cool, purchased the injectors, they look like this:
Unfortunately I didn't realize until a while later that these didn't include the extenders I needed, so I sent Nigel some money and got the flow force bring your own injectors kit, I also ordered the o-rings from FIC. However, this weekend as I was preparing to install I realized that the extenders don't seem to fit right, the ID of the extender is a bit larger than the OD of the injector where it fits on.
After a bit of google research, It seems just about every EV14 injector I can find has a wider diameter at the rail end.

So my question becomes, is that extra width just the construction of the injector? Or is there some sort of bushing that fits over to provide that width? It looks like it's integral to the body of the injector and I'm pretty much screwed.

Yes, I'm pretty frustrated about it. At this point I probably could've bought some nice used ID1000's that would have dropped right in for about the same money. I did try research what I needed to make it work before purchase, and I probably gave a bit too much benefit of the doubt since the seller was on here, clearly it has not worked out well for me. Is a new set of bushings something that's easily purchased? I can't seem to find much info via google. I guess I'll probably contact FIC to see if they can help.

Upon further review, I don't think this is actually what I need. The injectors in aidan's picture appear to be designed to fit into a car with an 11mm fuel rail opening (like a Miata) without the use of a top extender. This also seems to be what I have. The problem is that the body is too short. The vast majority of ev14 injectors appear to be about 14mm diameter on the rail end and the extender, like those I got from flow force adapt both length and diameter for fitment. It looks like what I really need is an extender which adapts only length and not diameter, which I can't seem to find anywhere. I've considered trying to use the extenders I have with the correct larger diameter o-ring, but it seems there's a chance the o-ring would not be seated correctly on the injectors and would be prone to leaking between the injector and extender. Gas leaks do not give me a warm fuzzy feeling and I'd rather cut my losses and buy a properly fitted injector than risk it. I'm still hoping fic may be able to offer a solution which works for not too much more money. We shall see.

Perhaps their older models put the spacer on the nozzle side of the injector? Of course it would be some funky solution that no one (including FIC) seems to use anymore (at least for Miata fitment).

I've been hesitant to go with the Flow Force option because my near term rods are to get close to the limits of the stock block/5spd on e85, and it seems they would be running out of headroom at that point. Am I being to conservative? While I have ambitions towards a built engine, I'm realistically a ways from that being a reality, so it's perfectly reasonable for me to plan for upgraded injectors at that time when/if it ever comes.

I am running injector service business and often have clients who bought 14x48x11(Subaru,etc) injectors for 14x60x11 setup(Miata, etc).
Buy 14mm top o-rings, 16mm Denso bottom seals, remove bottom o-ring retainers, take data for ID1000 and enjoy ID1000 injectors.
If you still afraid of leaks, send the injectors to the reputable injector service shop and ask them for the o-rings and leak test on 100psi.
I could do it for you for free (just material cost - few dollars) but I am in Toronto, it will take 2-3 weeks and approx. $30($15 one way) shipping cost.

Upon irodd's strong recommendation I decided to try what he suggested. After installing the extenders I feel pretty confident that the orings are well seated and that leaks should not be an issue and I'm going to give it a shot, keep an eye on the news for Tampa car fires, I'll just tell them some guy on the internet told me to do it! Hoping to have them installed and running dat sweet corn this weekend.

Is this true of Fuel Injector Clinic? I know there has been much talk of Fuel Injector Connection being generally terrible, but I thought Fuel Injector Clinic had a better reputation. They've been helpful when I've asked questions, especially considering I bought these used and I wouldn't necessarily expect them to provide any support. Supposedly, they provide detailed data based on testing of the exact injectors sold (each with a unique serial number). I've reached out to see if the data record is stored for these used units, or if not, what general numbers to use. I imagine a little searching would give me workable values, but I'll see what they have to say.
