question about miata camshafts

hi im looking to get a set of camshafts for my miata and what i want to know is will the 1.6l cams work in the 1.8l head if i cut the cas off the cam. there going into a 99 miata the does not use the cas.

No. The bore spacing of the 1.8 engine was made longer than that of the 1.6 in order to accommodate the larger diameter pistons. As a result, the crank and cam, as well as the intake and exhaust manifolds, heads, etc., are non-interchangeable between them.
