Default obd1 motor in obd2 car?

i have a 97 miata, im going to be building the block soon, im trying to have as little down time as possible during the build, my question is would I be able to use the head and block off a 94 ford escort gt?Can I put the pistons/rods on that and be able to run it on my car, or would i need to run an obd1 harness/ecu? i would like to stay obd2 since i have a megasquirt unit set up for my 97.

thanks in advanced

I think the only difference is the sensors themselves, so as long as you are reusing your current sensors on the new engine you should be fine. But someone correct me if I'm wrong.

It's all about the electronics, since the blocks are basically the same.

sensors, connectors, etc

The only catch is a few parts from the miata motor need to be swapped over.

Also, just so you know... the escort block is a great starting point to the coolant re-route
