New K24Z3 swap with stock subframe!
#23
Good question, but no. We partnered with Quarter Master to design this and they supply the piston, bearing, and seals, and we make the inside of our housings identical to their 740 series unit. So mechanically it's identical to their existing release bearing that's been in production for years, but now it fits the Miata bellhousing.

Hydraulic release bearings are nothing new, the stock 370z one is just pretty craptastic is all when you put a stronger pressure plate in. Since they partnered with Quartermaster, who have tons of experience in race environments, I don't have any concerns as to whether it will hold up or not.

If you installed this in a BP powered Miata, then the shift fork opening is wide open.

Fair enough, that seems reasonable and something I had not considered. This swap sure looks cool and is making me second guess if I want to go forward with my turbo project.
Also, thanks again for lending us some sockets and a jack at MATG. That was much appreciated and helped us swap my buddy's differential that broke.

For those looking to turbo one of these here is a link to a manifold that could work

I assume Z3 engine placement within the stock subframe ends up close/identical to the A2/V8R subframe setup? IE; I should expect to buy one of your valve covers to tuck a Z3 under the hood of an NA?
Any idea when it will hit the site with pricing? Are these only available as complete kits for the time being?
Also, I'd suggest promoting the fact that the hydraulic throwout bearing was developed with QuarterMaster; myself and a few others I've discussed this with all paused at the thought of a one-off hydraulic TB made in-house by a swap company (no offense) but adding a more reputable clutch company to that would go a long way to assuage fears I think...

K Miata seems like much more than a typical swap company to me. I think this new kit is very cool, makes me want another Miata. Besides, it makes a boosted K24Z3, ZF, Getrag combo pretty reasonable. He said they are currently working on their own turbo manifold.
