Photos are temporarily down due to photobucket's recent move to disallow linking of images unless you pay for their top tier plan. Currently debating between switching to a different hosting service or just paying up to keep the build threads alive. If I switch, it's going to be a massive amount of work to go through the entire build thread and edit every image link individually.
I will get everything back up one way or another though.
Yeah this is fucked man, just destroyed my entire build thread. But I'm not down with supporting that type of business model. I hope photobucket goes the way of the dodo.
I've been using PB for over a decade... numerous build threads over at least a dozen forums. Hundreds of pics. I've hated them for a while, but was invested so I kept with it.
I'm just hoping they crash and burn and get bought out by someone with a rational business model. Maybe if that happens the content can be saved and all those threads can be restored. I just don't have the time to do it manually.
There website had become the slowest and most difficult to use anyway. Why would I want to pay them to use them? Guess I'll just start new build threads and host images somewhere else.
I've been happily paying for years for the storage amount I needed. I have no issue with paying for a service, but the recent change feels more like extortion. I have no need for the 100GB of storage the top tier provides. I would drop them in a heartbeat if it wouldn't take a monumental amount of work to re-host every image elsewhere and update all my threads accordingly.
A $3.99 / mo web hosting plan should give enough bandwidth for hosting images for forum / ect. Esp if you run it behind a cache solution like CloudFlare.
When I first saw it I thought it was gonna be like $4 a month, which while it annoys me I could live with it, cause like you said, it's a pita to transfer hundreds of photos. But almost $35 a month, yeah, **** off with that.
Transitioning over to SmugMug. It's going to be a long process but I'm going to try to work backwards, updating the latest posts first and eventually I'll get the whole thread back on-line dating further back.
Got some work done yesterday after work. I had mentioned earlier that the coolant expansion tank that I had been using with the 1.6L turned out to be too small for the LFX. So I picked up a Moroso tank with just about double the capacity:
The larger tank needed a new home, so tank position is moving to go up against the right side firewall. Because the lines to/from this tank need to be easily accessible to disconnect if I'm pulling the front nose off, I broke the lines up into two lines each, joined by bulkhead fittings on a little plate I made:
Tank and lines installed:
The tank takes up the location on the firewall where the relays and fuses were living. Because those items stay attached to the engine if the engine is pulled, and the tank stays with the chassis, I move that stuff forwards of the tank via another bracket so that it's still just one M6 bolt to remove to release that from the car. All this stuff is waterproof, but there's a splash shield integrated into the bracket, just in case:
That's almost the exact same setup we moved to after ditching the OEM pressure vessel to make room for A/C lines. Excuse the untidiness, we had an ebay fan fail and we're upgrading to spals for additional airflow over the condenser core, and I'm rewiring for hi/low speeds instead of individual fans.
Juuust about to go for the first test spin... turns out the clutch isn't disengaging. Wonderful. Hydraulics checked out, so there was nothing left but to drop the transmission. Hey, on the bright side this was an opportunity to go through the whole engine removal process and take notes for next time
Cooling assembly off:
Whole assembly out as a unit:
A view we don't usually get of things:
Turns out.... the clutch disc was in backwards! The doofus who installed it (yes me) missed the small mark for which side was supposed to point to the flywheel.
Engine/Trans/Subframe are still sitting under the car... so that'd be a no
Was going to reinstall after work today but I might take a moment with that stuff out of the way to add some heat shielding to the back of the firewall, plus I have a long run on the training schedule this evening so only ~2hr window to work on the car today. Might do engine install tomorrow after work.
