Question related to the heater core pipes when using the OEM K24A2 intake manifold:

1) Would it be possible to retain the heater core functionality? I.E. Re-routing the inlet/outlet pipes on the engine bay side, only?
2) Is that the OEM K24A2 throttle body as well?
3) Is it possible to use the B Series TPS on that throttle body?

Love that you are trying all these manifold combinations while you are in this stage. I am planning a "keep allthethings OEM" build with a K24 and this info would help greatly.

Thanks.

Stock heater core is retained and functional

I think any cable operated k series throttle body will work, depending on manifold flange.

K-tuned offers a b series tps adapter

But if you are willing to forgo a heater core, the stock TSX intake ("RBB") fits in there nicely.

Mentions if you are able to "forgo" the heater core.. Assuming he means you won't have a functioning heater?

Thanks for the answers on 2) and 3) however.

Hard to have a functioning heater without a heater core, which is what forego means.

The right way to do it is with the S2k mani if I understand correctly. But the TSX mani will do in a pinch if you don't need a heater.

I didn't understand where you were going with that one. I guess no heater core for that manifold. Maybe you could rig something up.

The only way i plan to have my inlet facing the firewall is if there is a roots charger strapped to my engine.

Weld a tight 130ish degree bend to the TB and you're good to go even with the heater core.

Hyper would use a reversed laminova heat exchanger there. Heater core functionality retained with bonus a/w anti-intercooling.

hyper dont need a heat exchanger at all. As you can see according ot my image here all the water bypasses the block anyways.

I was thinking the same thing, but rather a degree bend on the heater pipes to clear the manifold, not using a different manifold to clear the heater core pipes.

All of that I understand. I saw the few hundred dollars in an intake manifold and an adapter plate and would personally rather fab an intake and re-route the heater core inlets/outlets to accommodate an intake manifold that might come on the long block when purchased. Because cheaper and I like to build things.

Big news from today...the motor is now running! :yippee:

Punch list for test drive is down to:

1) Add two "tight" hangars to exhaust to resist sideloading

2) Wire up dash temp gauge (sensor already installed in water plate)

3) re-install dash sans heater core

4) Finish Intake tube/filter

Plan is to take the car to Daytona next week to display at the GRM tent during the Rolex 24. Stage 1 of the build will see print shortly (article already submitted). Picking up a lightweight hardtop from Treasure Coast while I am there. Cage build starts when I get back.

Looks fantastic Andy. Going to ceramic the headers?

For now, I'm leaving the Lovefab header as it came. Not sure if it will be the final thing on the car. I'll be testing some alternatives.

If you like fabbing things, and you can weld aluminum, a cleaner approach would be to cut the throttle body flange on the manifold and add a 45-degree wedge of tube to rotate it to a vertical position. Then it will clear anything and you have a cleaner run to the CAI. Throttle cable will be easier, too (mine is kinda wonky right now).

Honda VTEC Turbo four-cylinder engine confirmed for the U.S. | Digital Trends

Does anyone know if the ~280Hp 2.0L turbo charged civic type R motor is a K-series engine? Or is it a brand new architecture?

If it's K-series this might provide a source for turbo manifolds to boost k-miatas. Also possibly interchangeable high performance parts to play legos with.
If not, k-miata company might have their next engine swap kit project for more miata/honda awesomeness.

Nobody is sure of the engine code yet as far as I know, but it is a very different engine by the looks of it. Im pretty sure it is going to be a new series. Most likely part of the new "Earth Dreams" engines, like the L15 replacement.

Also, It is rumored that the manifold is cast into the head.

cyotani 01-15-2015 11:42 AM

Seeing how no one mentioned k-series on any article I found on it it's most likely a new engine.

I wouldn't be surprised with this either. Many companies are switching to this method. Makes life easier and more reliable but less options for upgrading and moding it.

Leafy 01-15-2015 11:45 AM

I was under the impression that the k series was already dead as a new production engine.

Full_Tilt_Boogie 01-15-2015 11:52 AM

Plus they are back to putting the exhaust on the front side of the engine like the old engines. So the head has to be pretty different right there.
I guess there is always the possibility the rotating assembly is similar, but probably not.

Hey, if it bolts to the same trannys and uses the same flywheels we're mostly in business anyways just mount and oilpan away.

Ummm...you guys do know that there has been a factory turbo K-series for a long time now.. 07-12 RDX has the K23A1 rated at 240/260.
