Default IAC and TPS removal

Quick rundown: currently I'm running a 95 motor in my 1.6 chassis w/ Flyin Miata TB spacer. Climate is Georgia and I never drive it if it's under 32F. Car has no AC or PS (all properly deleted). After deleting the parts in question, I have Flow Force 610CC injectors, MSPNP 1.3, and a BRP MP62 lined up to go on the car.

Right now, both my IAC and TPS are unplugged. It's been running like this for quite some time. Even under daily driving conditions, it runs great. This leads me to want to go ahead and delete them both, considering I'm going for a nicely tucked bay while I'm doing all my SC work.

Getting to the point: I know the IAC is a simple blanking plate and coolant line splice. No problem. I took my TPS off the other day and noticed a D shaped shaft protruding (heh). I didn't like the idea of dirt coming in and gumming up the rotating assembly, so I put it back on. I've read this thread (https://www.miataturbo.net/race-prep...e-49344/page2/) but I didn't hear of any long term results. What becomes of this D shaped shaft if you remove the TPS? Hell, could I grind it down flush and make a plate to cover it up?

And, yes, I've searched Google about TPS deletes. Not much help besides the one thread. Thanks all.

Thanks all.

Why do you want to remove the TPS. What you need is a variable TPS out of an automatic 1.6. The car will run much better with a variable tps than just on map.

That's because a TPS is darned useful with a Megasquirt. You would be wise to keep it (after converting to a real TPS, that is).

Ah, thanks. I'll add the auto/variable TPS to the parts list. Seems like there's always "one more part" to get before swapping ECUs. Thanks again for the help.

It just occurred to me that the supercharger deletes the throttle body from off of the intake manifold. This is my first SC install, so I'm almost afraid to ask...but when you relocate the TB in an SC install, do you retain the TPS?

Auto TPS from a 1.6 car won't fit the manual TB. Get a complete auto TB with TPS (uses same IAC) or perform one of the other common vTPS adaptations.

Edit: I see you have a 1.8 swap -- in that case you can just use the 1.8 TB with its original vTPS.

Well, I have the FM adapter plate which bolts the 1.6 TB onto the 1.8 intake manifold.

Yes, I realize that, but you could take off the adapter and run a 1.8 throttle body if you want vTPS. Your options (detailed in other threads):

- delete on/off TPS and live with poor acceleration enrichment
- bolt select Wells or BMW OE vTPS onto 1.6 manual TB, make wiring adapter (DIY, uses 1.6 IAC)
- buy 1.6 auto TB, make wiring adapter (easier, uses 1.6 IAC)
- buy NA8 TB, make wiring adapter (uses NA8 IAC)
- buy NB TB, make wiring adapter (uses internal NB IAC)

Since you have the 1.8 motor, I assumed you had a 1.8 throttle body assembly lying around. OTOH, using a 1.6 auto vTPS on your current throttle body is not a viable option.

Sorry to be replying late, AFM. No I do not have a 1.8 TB. Regardless, I will be deleting the IAC. It's faulty anyways. Also I'll be shaving/smoothing/painting whatever TB I buy to match my shaved intake mani. I digress though.

Looks like I need to be hitting up the used Miata parts vendors for a 1.6 auto TB and vTPS. Thank you for your help.

On the other hand, if I recall correctly, this TPS is relatively PNP (Bosch 0280120406).
