Stick around! Time to start an intro thread here: Meet and Greet - Miata Turbo Forum - Turbo Kitten is watching you test compression. and tell us about yourself and the car, and we'll do our best to convince you to strap a turbo to it

We'll see what I end up keeping, I'll likely be making a for sale thread once I decide which direction I'm going with my setup.
Yep, that looks like the VICS manifold on my BP4W, good stuff there.
BP5A, there we go! That's the one we didn't get in this country. It may not actually have EGR, IIRC markets outside the US didn't get that. Depending on where you live and what your emissions requirements are, this may get you in trouble at inspection time. (except that maybe the 1.6 also has no EGR? I'm not real familiar with the 1.6, sorry)
USDM:
99/00 = BP4W (w/VICS)
01/05 = BP6D (w/VVT & VTCS)
J/UK/EUDM: (IE: rest of the world)
99/00 = BP5A (w/VICS)
01/05 = BPZ3 (w/VVT & "square top" manifold)
BP5A will have a better intake cam, better exhaust manifold, no EGR, etc. Its rated something like 10-15hp higher than the US spec BP4W
What are your ECU plans again? You really should look into stand-alone management for this thing. Adapting the 1.6 stuff will work, but I doubt it will be nearly as fun in the end.
Edit: Cable spedo on the 1.6? Yeah, spedo is going to be an issue...
Also, start shopping for a diff/housing/axles from a 1.8. You WILL destroy your 1.6 rear with this engine. The 1.6s rears are known to explode under stock power... good news is that I believe any 1.8 driveshaft will work for you. Research that though

Yeah, the 1.6 has no EGR (at least neither of mine do, I have a 91 and a 92). My BP5A actually looks like it had the piping at one point, but it has been removed.
Plans do include a MSPNP, so I'll be good there. I will however install with the 1.6 electronics in the meantime. I don't want to go through the hassle of getting 99/00 wiring in there, FM doesn't recommend it anyway and they're always right, right? Haha. I figure I can decide exactly how I want to set up my megasquirt when I get closed to the install date.
Making a thread later per your recommendation with my plans (abliet they're a bit modified now with the arrival of a BP5A). There won't be any convicing required for boost, it's in the plans and budget.

The throttle body is the only thing to really figure out and that can be resolved with FM's throttle body adapter or if you're going to an aftermarket ECU you can swap on a 94-97 throttle body pretty easily.

Wiring isn't a problem. You just pull all the sensors out of your current motor and put them in this one. Pretty sure the front water neck will just swap over, you won't need the cam or crank sensor, extend the wires and move the CAS from the back of your intake cam over to the new motor's exhaust cam. For the speedo you just pull the digital one out of the 6 speed and stick your mechanical speedo in the same spot.

The waterneck won't swap per the guys at FM, but they had a used one in salvage that they are sending me for cheap. I'm also getting their 1.8 swap kit less the motor mount brackets since mine came on the motor, plus their stage 1 clutch.

Well I got my money refunded. You're a lucky bastard, I wanted this. I just bought a 99 usdm motor though, just sucks because I have to make egr block off plates and get special adapters for the fuel rail now. I hope your motor/trans works out good.
What turbo system you planning on running?

Why 99-00s over 01-05s?
