This thread shall now come to order.

"Just spent 4 days with a new model Kawasaki 250cc 4strk dirt bike on the dyno testing. Had to prove to this customer how the dimpled valves work, with him there, ran the bike with stock valves immediately put my dimpled valves in, ran it about 6-7 runs to seat them in... and viola... this is what you get..."

So...less than a 2% increase when new...and then just like normal gunky valves after a few months?

imagine what they'd get replacing the old gunky spark plugs with brand new dimpled ones!

WI would keep the dimples reasonably clean. Generally if you have tons of carbon on the intake valve at that location something is not right anyway. Gasoline is a pretty decent solvent.

Having said that, is it really much better than any of the other ideas like swirl polishing and 3 angle/5 angle grinds etc? How do they get the dimples? I also wonder about the other properties of the valve. Is it structuraly weaker? Does the increased surface area mean more heat transfer?

1) The gains shown in the dyno graph may not be from the dimpling but from other features / shape such us an undercut stem

2) the other valve closeup pic in post #24 by Joe shows "ratchets", not dimples. Ratchets have been used to prevent backflow at low RPM with long cam durations.
