I am building my 96 1.8 motor and have encountered a dilemma. I am using King Bearings with extra clearances. My crank is all stocked not cut but just to be safe I got the bearings with extra clearance. The problem now is with what oil should I use. I was planning to go Rotella 15w-40 but its not a synthetic. I also thought of using 10w-60 liqui moly. Dont think it will make a big difference from synthetic or non-synthetic. I just want to know what do you guys think. Maybe someone has other suggestion on oils. I just want to protect my car. Thanks In Advanced

You think so? I mean the extra clearance bearing was fixing a problem that wasn't there.... Now I have them so I guess I have to go with them

 

Don't want to spin a bearing. I'm just trying to overbuild the engine so that I don't have to worry or dig into the bottom end right after its done.

 

You're trying to do it right... Except your not doing it right.

 

So do i continue with what im doing or do i go back and try and do it the actual right way.

 

Get plasti gages, measure with what you have, go from there....

Well I had my local machine shop measure my crank and it came out standard. But the thing that matters is the space between bearing and crank... I going to pick some up tomorrow and check it out.

 

Sounds like they just determined that it hasn't been ground undersized. So they ball parked it, you need to find the row and seat number.
