Default 1.8 build need alittle direction on begining.

Hello guys, i have 1990 miata with the 1.6 i will be driving daily. I recieved a 1.8 with gasket set and 1.8 conversion kit from flying miata with the car. my plans r driving the car with the 1.6 and building the 1.8 to be turbo and to make about 200 - 225 whp. So far i have been reading i dont need upgraded internals until about 250ish whp. Any opinions on parts need for my rebuild or should i jus go back stock internals with new parts. Thanks guys i have been serching for a day or two and trying to find a starting point in my project. I am new to turbo and engine rebuilds but i am ready to get started. I love the Miata so far it is a blast to drive. I can provied pics if necesary.

Questions like this are asked every week, search around some more and decide for yourself what you want to put into this.

I'm staying stock internals, block, head, trans, and diff. I'm on a budget and I only want a quick daily that I can take to auto-x.

If you get a turbo kit together, buy a megasquirt, and install everything properly, you'll be fine.

edit: stay away from that sc

225hp I'd just keep a stock 1.6. Sell the conversion to finance the mods on it.

The basic build is as follows. Add or take away at your pleasure.

- M-tuned rods w/ ARP2000 bolts
- ACL Race Bearings or Clevite Tri-Metal, I am running Maruha F112 which are basically Clevite
- Supertech pistons (also running these)
- Boundary oil pump gears
- Clutch (inexpensive option would be the Fm1 from flyin' miata)
- Stock head gasket + ARP head studs

That covers most of it. If you think you may want more power in the future, think about ARP Main studs as well (find Sav's thread on the broken main caps).

Get this or this for your fuel and ignition control.
Either of those are more important than bolting on a turbo kit in my opinion.

Get this if you want your car to drive longer than 4 weeks at a time when compared to a GReddy kit.

But before you get any further read the stickies in these forums, all your questions so far would have been answered there.

Thank you for your input. I will go over sticies agin. Jus trin to decide which low budget starter kit is better to upgrade over time. I would like to make a turbo kit purchase next week to get me motivated. Then make sure i have good fuel and ignition contol be fore i actually bolt it up.
