Touchscreen tuning laptop
So my mom needs a laptop that can handle something newer than XP, I want a new laptop. Solution is to hand mine down to her. But now I'm stuck on what to get. I want something that can do the whole tablet and laptop thing, I want at least 6 hours of battery life, and it needs to work with all tuning software I deal with (AEM, Haltech, MS, RR, HPT, Hydra), which pretty much means it needs 2 usb ports so I can use rom raider (needs to plug into the car and the wideband at the same time).
List format
Needs
6 hours of battery life
tablet laptop combo
windows 8.1
2 usb ports (maybe)
$400 or less
Wants
SSD
blow job adapter
fast enough to play HD youtube videos full screen without stuttering

The next laptop i'm getting will have a backlit keyboard and touchscreen.
I'm sick of trying to find keys and navigate the touchpad in the dark.
I was recently looking at the ASUS ones.
ASUS seems to have a few here on newegg.

I'll be getting one of the $600 ones whenever i can afford to.

Asus T100TA is what I have been looking at. Reviewed well and 10 hours of battery. $349 with Amazon Prime for the 64GB SSD model, expandable with mSD.

Reading old threads to see what I can find for laptop recs because I don't want to have to unplug my docked laptop and I think tuning would be awful on a surface pro (guessing kickstand will keep falling down).
This still looks like a solid rec for 100 bucks off ebay! Unless I can mount the surface somehow and use it with a mouse. I don't think you type all that much when tuning, no? I don't want to have to spend more money unless I have to, but looks like the HP solution might end up costing what a mount for the surface would.

I had a convertible tablet/laptop that I used for tuning for about a year. The biggest problem I had was that tuner studio doesn't support gestures to enlarge. Some of the menus were so small I couldn't make selections using the touch screen. It was pretty worthless for tuning without the keyboard.

I think I have an EEPC somewhere, but it was such a piece of ****. I mean it worked great when I first got it... in 2009-10.
I mean, mine has a full keyboard and the screen is the perfect size. The only concern I have is of the computer flying around because it's super light and because it stands on a kickstand and doesn't really have a base in the same way most laptops do.
I saw a picture Joe Perez posted with his tablet setup mounted so it was roughly where the AC controls are. I thought that might be doable. The touch screen on the surface is very good. I guess I could attach a piece of hard plastic or clamp on a small metal plate that would allow the keyboard to mount there as well.
I guess I can always try it and then come back and tell you that you were right and that I was being stubborn. I just feel stupid buying a third laptop. I have one already, but it's docked to a dual monitor setup for school. Then I have the SP3. The EEPC lives in a box in the attic. I guess I can dig that up lol.
Haha, seriously? I could probably use a PS3 controller. I know the bluetooth works.
No DDR Controller mats?

FWIW, I got this tablet:
https://www.amazon.com/NuVision-8-in...uvision+tablet
It has an 8" screen, 2GB of RAM, 32GB SSD expandable to 128GB, and it runs Windows 10. I think it's supposed to be 64bit, but I haven't verified that yet.
I also got this Bluetooth keyboard/touchpad:
https://www.amazon.com/Rii-Wireless-...A3QWGSX6ZYJIEF
Both together cost less than $100, and the combination works quite well. The screen is plenty big enough if you adjust the resolution and expand the table windows, and it runs TS with no issues. I can easily read my AFR and VE tables with it sitting in the passenger seat. It also works great with the EFI Analytics bluetooth transmitter. The touchpad is a bit clunky, but definitely workable.
Anyway, if anyone is looking for an inexpensive tuning setup, I would recommend this.

I think I'm going to try giving things a go with the surface to start with and see how it goes.
You could probably use a floor mounted setup ala ebay to have the screen sit at the level of the center eyeball vents in order to see things better and not have to stare at the passenger's seat.
