Default n00b?: Learning How to tune

So I am trying to learn how to tune my new Hydra ECU. I understand the navigation of the software but would like to learn what it all means and how each piece affects the cars performance. I have read thru all the docs on the hydra web site but it doesn't really help a whole lot.

Are there any books out there the go over basic tuning?

Thanks!

Mike

Honestly go search for the megasquirt megamanual and read the whole thing. While it is not hydra specific it will teach you more then you ever want to know about running and tuning a stand alone EMS.

Performance Fuel Injection Systems - by Matt Cramer and Jerry Hoffmann DIYAutoTune.com

Informative book, would not give you step by step on how to tune your ECU but it gives you good idea on where you should be at AFR's, boost, etc.

Your first tuning experience is using a Hydra? You're going to have a bad time.

If he already knows how to navigate the software I don't see the big deal. The only real problem with the hydra is that the tuning software interface is horrid.

Hydra is clearly a superior computer.

it has no manual because its too complex for a manual.

you basically live with it and try to figure it out during your lifetime. it works when its in the mood and when its not that time of the month.

Thanks for the info, and the banter

There is no real manual, I have read what they have on their site but that is mostly about how to nav the UI. I ordered the book that lsc224 mentioned, hopefully that will get me on the right path.

FWIW, I got the hydra because of the guys at FM. I ask a ridiculous amount of questions and they always have answers. If they stand behind it I'll go with it every time.

Thanks Again!
