Just came across this. In one pass they run darn near 170mph in the 1/4 mile with a mazda bp. Im going to see if I can find more info on what was done to the engine, but this shows the bp engine having more potential than most realize. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oyrg4QMZBek
100% agree about the BP having more potential than most give it credit. I'm currently trying to find more info on this build as well as a few others. I'll DM you with what little info I've been able to gather. I have a hard time finding people that care at all everyone is generally dismissive or advocates swapping motors now a days. More power to them swapping tho I want the price of BPs to drop again lol
Yeah thats a bad boy for sure. Would really like some details on this thing if anyone knows exactly, such as engine and turbo setup, transmission, rear setup and gearing.

I believe it's a 2.0l BP, turbo is just a gigantic older Garrett but I could be wrong on that one, it's definitely nothing modern. Has a Powerglide and it's back halved so solid rear axle.

Personally I love the BP. I am the type that doesnt like engine swaps and wants to make the most of what engine is in the car already. The BP can take a bunch of abuse if you throw rods and pistons at it. I think for the really big HP guys sealing the head is the biggest issue and thats over 800+whp. If the BP had a better support for the crankshaft and better flowing head it would be perfect. Im only making 350ish whp on mine but Ive been rocking a BP since like 2002.

Sce has cut ring gaskets now which should be an improvement over the mls gaskets, but likely not quite as good as doing an oring/copper setup. They are a little pricey but I will be using these next if I decide to continue usnig the bp engine. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sce-cr330057
Swapped the nitto 555r drag radials with hoosier dr2 drag radials and recorded new best time posted below. Also added additional 3 gallon air storage capacity to my spool shot system. All else is the same as used previously.
I also had the dragy running on this pass to measure other data points. Dragy reported a 0-100mph time of 6.08 secends and a 40-100mph time of 4.15 seconds.
Thats kind of a hard question to answer precisely since I have my setup to where I can leave in different gears and spool shot settings. This is all experimental and Im still working out best setup.
For last night I was foot braking full throttle in third gear at the first yellow and releasing the brake immediately after seeing the third yellow. I have one transmission configuration that when activated, and shifter is in low, it releases the intermediate band which in effect applies 3rd gear. The brakes will hold in 3rd gear at full throttle which also allows a little higher stall speed. I had it set to where when foot brake was released it would apply the intermediate band in the transmission which effectively applies 2nd gear and also activates the spool shot at same time. I always launch in 2nd gear and only use 1st gear for the burnout. I will say though that the best 60' times in the past with the nittos were to simply foot brake in 2nd gear and activate the spool shot immediately before launching. I will try that method next time I go and believe if I time everything right it will possibly dip into the 6.70s. However its very hard to time it right using that method since if i activate spool shot too soon it will push through the brakes.
I did take a log on one run last night so I can try and give you a short answer from that log if you can wrap your mind around the above setup description I was using last night.
Applying full throttle and foot braking at first yellow the converter stalled to around 3300-3400 rpm and built a little over 2psi. Right after seeing third yellow brakes were released which automatically applied 2nd gear and activated spool shot at same time. After release of foot it took about 9 tenths of a second into the run to reach 30 psi and 5500rpm.
Congrats! She's a mover for sure. Nothing like the sound of a v8 singing down the track. I do miss that over the 4 cylinder.
Thanks bud, yeah it's not as impressive as doing it with a BP but there is something to be said for an 11 second car that can make laps around a road course for an hour at a time. As well as being docile enough to drive 2hrs to the track if you feel the need, getting 25mpg while you're at it.
managed a new PB this weekend. not bad for a bone stock 1.6 and 5 speed with an ebay t3 turbo, ID1050 injectors, E85, Walbro 190hp and Speedyefi ecu in a car that was built and tuned by an idiot, ie. myself.
