Greg, any particular reason you chose not to use shims on the stage 2 pump? AFAIK it comes default with 2 of them to increase oil pressure a bit. Wouldn't that have helped with the VVT at lower rpms?
No, shims would have no affect on pressure below the relief valve pressure.

Correct. The relief valve is functionally the same as a wastegate on a turbo. Limits max pressure possible.
