diminishing returns are totally normal, are they not? This isn't a particularly large turbo. It can put out more power of course, and heatsoak might have held it back a bit, but i expect the turbo isn't a whole huge distance from being more or less maxed out.

Just a question guys. Based on my results, how possible is it to hit 350whp? I think I really saw some diminishing returns from the turbo and it could probably make a little more power if it wasn't dynoed for 2 hours prior but I am more concerned with the efficiency range on this turbo.
It's an EFR6258 T25 .64a/r. How much can I push through it safely, without getting too close to the top of the range and putting substantial wear on components?

you're at 16 now? Yes you can easily run 20, even 25 on this turbo, heck it can go as high as 29 if I'm reading the chart/map correctly. Check out the compressor/turbine maps and you'll see you still have a lot of headroom.
problem is, on pump gas there's only so much you can do in terms of upping boost/timing until you hit the det threshold, vs e85 and w/i that threshold is raised significantly. The other thing is flow: your stock IM is pretty crappy and holding back a dozen ponies, maybe more.
There are many ways to add more power to your car from where it's at now. I'd say better fuel and more boost/timing will probably be the cheapest/easiest. Without seeing your tune and logs, this would be a question for your tuner though...

I recall my tuner saying something to the effect of "I didn't need to run as much timing as i thought". I have low comp pistons (the 8.6-8.8:1 Weisco) and the FM .040 headgasket. I get 93 octane fuel at best locally.
Another local guy is taking his Miata to my tuner to get done in early May. I'm giving him a ride home, so maybe when I'm out there, I'll ask to see what he thinks. I was trying to find a Squaretop manifold but it didn't seem like it was worth a dozen ponies.
That said, I think if I put the car on a dyno again, it would make more than the 311/285 it did after a 2 hour dyno tuning session. It definitely doesn't feel slow, and by no means do I want to break stuff, so it's just something I'm kicking around. Obviously, if the headroom is there and we can go to say 20psi and make closer to 350whp without sacraficing too much, I'd rather do that than spend $500 (which is what everyone wants now) for a Squaretop, but you're probably right, it's a discussion I should have with my tuner who knows the car.
