Well, none of that tranny **** helped at all. Ka klunk, ka klunk... Zugi, zugi, zugi... At least I made it home, same ****, only 4th gear works properly. Still shifts smooth tho
Luckily I picked up a good one a few weeks ago for $100, but this isn't a good long term solution. I will be thinking about the BMW swap soon, since I broke this one on wastegate pressure.
Happy Thanksgiving!

I have been feeding my little monster 5 speeds. I don't want a 6 speed. I wonder what parts I would need to change from a getrag 260 to a zf 5 speed when I decide I need the diff too?
In any event, the cheap 5 speeds are getting more scarce around here, and I want to stop tuning power away. I have until March to figure this out.

Wow, looks like the bell housing adapter is different. I kinda think I will need a real diff, another 5 G's will be a 50% increase in this POS. On the other hand, swapping trannies is not my favorite pass time, and I am around $400 in them already. Not to mention the fact that this last one only lasted 2 months, at the current pace, I will be 20% there by next year easy.
I guess I have already figured it out, a zf 5 speed with a getrag diff. No time frame yet, I am gonna drive this last 5 speed to oblivion.

This is so funny to me. Rods and XMSN's are not good beyond 2 times the designed power / torque of the vehicle: thus they are noodles and junk.
Now, 1.6 differentials that fail with stock power, that is junk.
Interested to see your long term solution. What is the aversion to 6 speed and commensurate differential? Aren't you still making the 4-5 shift? Pattern, shift-ability?

It is supposed to be funny, I laugh my *** off every time I break one. At least, once I get it back into the garage. So you think I am only making 2X stock power. I think it's probably closer to 3X, and the 5 speeds still last a couple months
As for 6 speeds, IIRC you have a couple years on me Son, so you might understand. Way back when I learned to drive, 3 on the tree was cooler than a 3 speed auto, and 4 on the floor was badass. My first car was a POS 5 speed and my second was a decent 4 speed, my old toyota work truck was a 4 speed too. Other than that, all my cars have been manual 5 speeds, 4 with a highway gear, what I consider a proper tranny. Ok, I did have an old 3 on the tree with a sub-compound low Toyota stout at one time, but I barely drove it.
I think the getrag 260 is my ideal choice paired with a 3.9 rear eventually. But I will still have to make the 4-5 shift with my current diff.

Right, I thought you were tongue in cheek. Yes, I'm older than Curly claims to be.
My point on the 4-5 is that you do it now, so with 6 speed, you would not necessarily add a shift, but would be properly in the direct gear at the end of the run; 5th.
Not ready to make the leap to automatic, then.
And, yes, I know you are close to 3X power. I don't plan to go there, but I suspect it is quite fun. Heck. I still grin every time I drive my ~220WHP set-up.
I can see the Getrag. Even a 6 speed would be heavily stressed on the strip. I mean, what if you actually hooked, instead of spinning those street tires?

Well, I tried to post this the other day to no avail, let's see if it works now.
Went to the track on Saturday, running CA91 and taking it easy on my last tranny. You know, until I figure out what I am doing. Just focused on my light, I am not sure how some of the guys are cutting nice lights on the very first race of the year. I couldn't get a decent one until my 3rd pass, rusty.
Pretty slow, still ironing out my 91 tune, and shifting and launching gently. Enough to impress the weekend crowd tho
These crazy turbo dragsters were there, tons of room for improvement, if you want to go faster than mid 6's I guess.
I always take a picture of this AMX when I see it because my wife used to have a Javelin when we were younger.

Had a slow day on CA91. I missed 5th somehow on the first pass. Then there was fluid at the top of the track which caused me to get a little squirrelly in 4 the gear. I mentioned it to one of the officials and it turned out both lanes were contaminated.
There were some Mazdas there today
He beat me... Well, I Roxanned and gave it to him.
A current pic, that breather set up reduces power but contains PCV fumes better. Forgot my little air filter and plug for the track, need to make a charcoal canister for this thing.
Most importantly, I had a ton of fun and am so glad to be back on the strip again. Back to E85 next week.

Oh well, I still can't seem to drive yet this year. I need to look at the log for my 2nd pass last week and see how I pulled off a 2.0 something 60'. Somehow I still won semi finalist(no idea how?) I actually beat a hellcat, but the timeslip is so bad it's not believable, so here's a picture of his number, 18.
I met DJWade, nice to meet you man! His car is very cool and drew a huge crowd, and is legal. He can vouch that I beat that hellcat.
There was this lambo, but I didn't actually see it run.
And last but not least, a third place trophy.
Hopefully I can figure out how to use this flywheel a little bit better by next week.

Slow, haha. It's not really the type of environment an Exocet excels in. I only got 2 runs before a guy literally tore his axle off his car and shut things down for a while. I think I ran a 14.1 the first run after miss-shifting 2nd, and a 14.7 the second after missing 4th. Pretty sure it would easily run a low 13 with someone besides me behind the wheel, maybe faster, but it was still a blast.
Edit: A few links for video:
Edit2: For some reason, all of the links are playing at the same time if you click the embedded one, so you'll have to slum it up and go to the right time codes:

My first (and fastest) run. Like I said, not very fast, lol: 1:44:11
