Default z31 turbo mystery

So on craigslist, there's a "t25 from a z31" in my price range, so I did some research...
There's so much conflicting info out there I'm not sure which way is up. I know for sure that late 300zx's came with a "t25" turbo, while the earlier ones had T3s. There was this really helpful thread here where a t25 turbo with a T3 flange came off a 300zx. I've heard that flange mismatch is the case from some other place, but that doesn't jive with what I know about turbo names...

Anyway. To the questions.

I don't mind using a T3 flange since I'm building my own manifold, but with a lack of turbine maps, how can I be sure my 1.6 will spin it?

Lets say I want to add a ton more boost. Could I use the CHRA from a GT2560R to make a sweet BB hybrid? I'm worried that I'll be stuck with a T3 flange and I'll have no options for making power under 6000rpm.

here's that thread https://www.miataturbo.net/diy-turbo...n-turbo-33468/

Brain knew about the turbo the first time, so lets see if I can summon him

Honestly find a different turbo that you know exactly what it is. The amount of time and effort to figure out if the random turbo off CL would work is not worth the hassle.

I feel ya, but finding a used T25 around $100 has been impossible. I'm even willing to do a rebuild and can't find one.

Try using searchtempest.com and searching all over the US. May be able to find one on there that someone would be willing to ship. I paid $100 for my SR20 T25 back in 07/08, I then paid the same price in 2013, and again in 2014 for more. Sadly I don't have any spare ones on hand that I could let go.

I got a used T25 5 days ago for $120 shipped... I didn't even look that hard(or I got lucky). The Nissan 240SX forums(zilvia.net) is where I found mine.

Boom. As soon as I complain, one shows up. Maybe you guys can help me get this girl I like to go out with me this Sunday

Does this look like it'll clean up ok? I'm not 100% what to look for. It has some shaft play, so I'm expecting a rebuild. It doesn't look like the fins hit the housings, which is basically all that matters right? Looks like some studs are missing too, what do people usually use?

with all that oil on the turbine, it definately needs a rebuild. smoking turbos are a big reason people pull them off of SR's. rebuild it and it should be fine.
