Turbo recommendations please for goal of 300hp on e85

I'll be quick. Need turbo recommendation for a plan of 300hp on corn. I know there are plenty that will do it but I'd like to go with one that will be efficient and safe. I do not plan to go over 300hp. Basically I want to keep everything reliable enough so I don't have to upgrade from a mazda transmission. This would be a street build so response is priority.
Right now im thinking a pulsar 2860 but would like input.
This would go on a bp4w head and block. Plan to use stock vvt pistons to up compression. Maybe a head shave for more compression and fuel is full time e85. Will add the proper hardware and internals of course. Looking at a kraken top mount and full 3 inch exhaust.
I know the efrs are all the rage but for my goal i just dont think its necessary but im very new to turbos. Right now I have a supercharger (mp62) and I'm realizing it's limiting to get to my goal. I have searched around and have an idea but would like current suggestions. Thank you.

Look for the thread called "I want your spool data" to see how different ones spool on different engines. A GTX 2863R series 2 with a smaller A/R turbine housing would be a very nice choice and so would several EFR models. I haven't looked in a while but if Garrett offers GTX 2860 or 2560 series 2 turbos there may be some good choices there. You will find there is overlap.

A 2560 will do 270 on 94 octane, and I think 10% more on E85 shouldn't be a big deal assuming you're building a motor with enough compression to take advantage of the octane. If my target was 300 rwhp and I was never going to want more, then that's probably what I'd do. That or EFR, I guess.
The GTX turbos are great, but they don't really target numbers that small. Maybe one of the new "G series" turbos does, not sure.
IME the spool loss from a 2560 to a 2860 is significant. You can get another 100+ rwhp out of it, but you pay for it in spool.

I had a 2560R on race gas before, now I have a GTX2860R Gen2 and the spool difference (both .63 housings) is negligible.
If you want a little more head room and the turbo not always at it's absolute limit, go for the GTX2860R Gen2.
If you're on a budget, the 2560R is an awesome choice btw

Back in the day you would "get the smallest turbo to hit your goal" because it would obviously come on way sooner and have faster response.
Recent advancements in turbo tech and manufacturing have all but rendered that approach useless.
So the question shouldn't be about sizing, as both a gtx and efr will out-spool, out-respond, and out-everything the old pulsar potato.
The question is: do you want the best setup, or a poverty setup? No shame in either, just don't confuse them, and certainly don't compare them. It's apples vs apple pie.

I have two turbo miatae.
The EFR 6758 is making 100hp at 3150rpm.
The Garrett 2560 is making 97hp at the same mark, so basically comparable.
The Garrett continues to peak at 256hp at ~6500rpm, then falls over.
The EFR reaches 450hp at 6000rpm and holds that until redline.
I’ve not been able to drive the EFR car yet for a comparison of feel, but I am not expecting it to feel laggy compared to the Garrett based on the numbers.

I forgot, my turbo is actually a hybrid. Genuine Garrett (ported) exhaust and compressor housings.
Pulsar 2860RS CHRA minus compressor wheel, that is from Turbo Rebuild Limited in the UK for the GTX2860R Gen2 and their wheels are top notch replacements. The assembly was balanced aswell.
Might be a bit better than a stock Pulsar.
On the other hand, I have a GTX3584RS from Pulsar in my shelf and it feels and looks very very good.
I can take some close ups, if someone is interested.
I have nothing to do with them, just sharing experience. They might be no EFRs, but they get the job done and can save big cash for other goodies.
My non vvt car puts down 200tq in 1:1 gear at ~3200rpm.
Really long term reliability isn't tested to this day, but it seems like they're WAY better than your typical "ebay turbo"

Just chiming in here, I'm on a dinosaur OG gt2860RS. It's a great turbo, but again ancient, and doesn't compare to modern tech.
I made 308WHP at 18psi on e85. The turbo was all but maxxed out, we threw some more air at it and it made more torque but couldn't hold any more boost near redline. Max boost is around 3800 which is considered laggy for most around here, but it makes super linear power and is nice for track use.
If I were to do it again now I'd definitely go GTX and pick up some more spool and have more overhead. But the setup now works, is plenty of power, and has been reliable so I'm not pulling it apart yet. Gonna track the **** out of it and if the turbo dies I'll upgrade.
I agree with everything vlad said previously.

Generally I do agree on what he said. Do you want the best setup possible? Of course you do! Everyone wants.
But the dude asked in another topic, if he can skip on forged pistons, so money IS a concern. Do you need a 2000$ Garrett or BW turbo to hit 300whp on ethanol and still get good response?
No, you don't. You can pay 650$ for a new Pulsar and call it a day, IF money is tight I might add. You could also just get a used 2560R for 400$ and still hit your goals.
If money is no problem, go fully forged, all accessories, EFR, custom everything for the best

Thanks for all the helpful information guys I do appreciate it much. Life has a way of happening and halting plans unfortunately lol. So yeah I have narrowed it down to a pulsar or maybe find a genuine 2560r for cheap. Also I don't mind having a poor man setup but I say that now. I still need to read up a lot as I've been more focused at home life and what not. So my plan is I'm selling the mp62 to see however much I can get for it. Then I'll probably have the car parked in my garage and start tearing down the engine, etc. I need to decide if I want to look around for a roommate (off topic kinda) because if I can find one it will help me with money but if not my mortgage isn't all that bad. I'll have to do my own thread maybe one day to document the journey from sc to tc.
