Question turbo question

i picked up a used garett 2560r turbo for the ol miata, im a complete noob when it comes to turbos, guy said it was rebuilt, looks brand new, discovered that the ball bearing turbos cant be rebuilt, what gives? assuming no shaft play and no leaks, would i just need to balance it? claims it was professionally done and that it wasnt cheap to do. i think there are only a handful of places that actually rebuild them from what ive been ablet to research

What is your question?

Is there a plate with a serial number or anything on the CHRA? Does it spin for more than 2 seconds by hand? Balancing is up to you, no one can give you an advice.
BB Turbos can get new compressor wheels, but they must be balanced after changing the wheel. For me it was hard to find someone in my area, who can balance complete CHRA from BB turbos.

update, i spoke with the seller and he gave me the company name that redid it, it seems legit, its too spotless to be amateur. now the housing is cracked where that flap is, can i do away with the internal waste gate system on the 2560r? if so, do you know what housing i would need? im a noob on trying to find turbo things, i need a mani, and all that stuff for it too, as far as the install goes i can do all that. i just want to hear that sweet sweet blowoff sound, with an exhaust that is aggressive, but not deafening. any links or parts would be awesome. price isnt a huge issue, but id like to keep it best bang for the buck

the question was, what are the chances he actually had it rebuilt the proper way and didnt do it himself and just try to dump a bad turbo onto someone. i havent received it yet, but when i do, ill look it over and see if anything looks fishy (paid 425f or it shipped) so I'm just skeptical, seemed like a way good deal but idk what they really go for other than msrp)

You can buy a new 2560r exhaust housing, unbolt the old one and bolt in the new one. Its easy, bolts are in the middle of the turbo.

Going ewg really complicates the build for hardly any benefit..

Sounds like you have much to learn about going turbo..

Have you decided on all the other needed parts for the turbo build?

Yeah, its just the cracks on the housing by the flap that worried me, isn't that part of the internal waste gate? And if I were to go external, would I be able to avoid cracked housings again? Thats where I was coming from on that, and the rest of the stuff I was gonna diy the piping, nice intercooler and then buy a reputable manifold and downpipe into a full 2 or 3 inch exhaust, 3 inch is preferable I think. Then megasquirt, find someone to tune it, do all that wideband jazz (still have to learn about it) and piece it all together slowly. Im a fast learner, so I feel like I should be okay if pointed in the correct direction

You all have no faith. Itll go just fine. My question was in regards to the turbo itself, not how to install it and all that stuff. Im aware. Injectors gotta be updated, oil lines for turbo, downpipe, header, vacuum lines, megasquirt to tune a/f mix, and to set up boost protection, bigger radiator, intercooler, coolant reroute, upgraded clutch after I swap to a standard in a couple weeks. If ive got something wrong or missing something that I need, please point it out, ill gladly take advice, but if not, im sure I can figure it out. Been working on cars for a long time, just never put a turbo on one. And yes, I do read the forums, quite often.

I gave you a CAT for finding the answer. 2560 is a great little turbo, you dont have to run the watercooling to it but I definitely would.
