Default Turbo dilemma

What's up guys, as stated I have a turbo dilemma. A little background on my car stock 94 1.8 liter, diypnp, 440cc Bosch, begi mani/2.25-2.5 dp, 2.5 cat back. Currently running an unknown mileage "sr20" t25. The p/o claims this is what it is but the ID tags are missing so can't be sure. The dilemma is upon inspection I believe the turbo is on its last leg i.e. Shaft play, little smokey on startup, compressor wheel fins are a little beat and a couple are bent. My plan was to upgrade to a full 2.5 dp and a gt2560 for quick spool and some headroom on power if I ever choose to swap in a rod/piston 99-00 engine. A friend of mine offered to sell me his gt2871r product number 734437-0002 for a steal. Brand new but has been sitting for a while. Based on the researching I've done it appears to be the .86 turbine housing t25 in/5 bolt out. My question is does anyone have any first hand experience with this set-up on a stock engine Miata? All the threads I see on here are at least rod/piston engines running higher power levels.

Thanks for any input

on a stock piston Miata it will be kind of a waste. once you build, should make 300-350 without much problems. don't waste money on a 2.5" downpipe/exhaust with that turbo

I have a 2871, I would not run one on a stock motor. For it to be in its range of efficiency will put you over what stock rods will handle. Pick up another sr20 t25 for $100 and swap it over and enjoy the car.

Like what was said, just grab another cheap if you can.

I opt'd for a new CHRA on my gt2860, No ragrets bc new

Thanks guys that's pretty much what I was looking for. I figured it would not be enjoyable on stock rods and I don't plan on engine upgrades until at least next year.
