One size up on the turbine AR killed spool (t3 content)

That statement likely summarizes the problem. The gap starts growing at the transition of inducer into the exducer (top of the red circle) and continues to grow to the end of that curve. Here's a good representation of the relationship between the two.
I suspect the larger 63AR housing is worse.Too big to measure with solder. Do you think that's adequate for the lazy spool?
The 48AR housing was an OE Mercedes piece that was cut for a stage III wheel by a turbo rebuilder. The 63AR has a Turbonetics "T" brand on it, but that's about all I know. Possible both were suited for the originally mated turbines, but not for this genuine Garrett wheel. Oh well.

It's all Garrett except for the turbine housings. I bought it that way to "drop in" to the Mercedes turbine housing that my exhaust was built on for simplicity. I'm familiar with Limit- will contact them regarding a true Garrett housing. thx

LOL - yes I did. And then naively lived with weak-*** spool because it's the only turbo I've ever had. Not until I installed this bigger housing did I actually start googling spool times for other 2.0L cars and realize there was something missing.

Came across my original eBay/chinacharger chra and turbine wheel while cleaning up the garage. Took comparison pics of both wheels. The difference is quite obvious when looking at the minor/exducer contour. The Garrett exducer is also taller than the eBay piece. Confirmation that I've been using a mismatched wheel and housing this entire time. Lesson learned - if you mix/match parts, check your tolerances beyond just checking to see if the wheel spins without interference.
