Default My first attempt at a turbo build

This is my first attempt at building/piecing together a turbo miata, or any other car.

as far as knowing what turbo to use my knowledge on that subject is not that great. basically I bought what I think is a lame *** turbo to start off with. I want this to be a track car possible 280ish HP - That too much for a track car?

any advice on turbos would be great... Thanks

Here is what I have so far

Engine:
Wiesco 9:1 Pistons
Eagle H-Beam
FM Built head +1in/+1ex
ARP Studs
RC550 Injectors
225lb walbro intank fuel pump
Xede
Mazda Speed competition motor mounts
Mishimoto aluminum radiator

Turbo:
BEGi Cast Iron exhaust manifold
Ebay Intercooler + BOV
What I thought was a turbo off a SR20 but starting to think it's not that at all
I think it's a T25 off a pulsar - I don't know but I want a bigger one now.

Suspension:
Tein Flex coilovers corner balanced @ Atspeed in Hanover, MD Full
Energy Suspension polyurethane bushings along with polyurthane differential mounts.
Racing Beat rear anti-swaybar w/ adjustable endlinks.
DBA slotted brake rotors
Braded brake lines (not installed)
Racing Lugstuds extened length and stronger than stock for the 15/225's
949 Racing light weight lugnuts
+ More

Inside:
Hard Dog Hardcore rollbar w/ harness tabs
Trackdog Racing 3 guage guagepanel w/ autometer boost gauge

Hey! I met you at the dyno day the other weekend.
Looks like you're off to a great start.
As far as the turbo, that one does look small. If it's off a pulsar, throw it in the trash.
I'd like to sell the one from my car, which is from an SR20, but I can tell you this...it won't make 280whp. In fact, I don't think there's anybody on this site that ever made more than 240whp with an SR20 turbo. I dyno'd my car in spring and it made 225whp/207wtq at around 12psi. I have run 15psi on that turbo already, which is just about to exceed the efficiency range. If you want to make over 250whp, I'd look for a GT2560 or maybe even a GT2871. Keep in mind, the amount of CFM's you can flow (volume you move) is better than the amount of PSI's. Example: My SR20 turbo might make 240whp at 15psi, while a GT3071 might make 240whp by 8psi. Why? Cause the larger turbo moves a greater volume of air. Lower IAT temps = win. You will sacrifice spool though.
I have, however, heard the SR20 turbo referred to as "the best miata autocross turbo ever".
Good luck and welcome!

Hey!! was cool to see some other miata nuts hanging around..... I think this turbo belongs on my lawn mower! time to get bigger. Would you believe that I have had this car for 10 months now and probably drove it a total of 15 miles.

On a side note: picked up a dent free hood at crazy rays pick-n-pull for 50 bucks today!!

Location: Baltimore - Ft. Smallwood
Year: 99-00

Air bags deployed but no real visible damage - car looked like it could be a runner.

it's nearly complete (minus a hood and a side marker I took) The top is there but torn up and loose.

If you are ok with China check out the link to the godspeed in my sig. It'll make 280 no problem.

I was curious about the china chargers and have seen the godspeed's on sleezbay but admittedly was afraid to ask about them. I have read about people that have heard horror stories about china chargers. Oddly none of them have had firsthand experience. I was actually already leaning towards a china charger so you post helps a bit ...Thanks

cool stuff, looks like you are off to a good start. As a track fanatic, I would probably turn the power down to 200 or less until you get a handle on everything. Unless you have had track time before, you will have a hard time keeping track of everything on your first 1-2 sessions (hell some people forget to get on the throttle lol).

Once you get comfortable with the driving line and stop "street" braking, you should be fine turning the power up all you like.

So I decided to route my IC tubes behind the headlights, pulled the lights enlarged the hole on the right side and made a hole on the left. even rounded over the edges so the are nice and soft. only problem...99-00 headlights are big as hell and won't fit now.

Got the right side 01+ headlight today.. fits like a F'in glove... drivers side should arrive in a couple of days Crossin fingers.
