I was thinking of using that solenoid that sits on the intake manifold of 1.8 engines in NA's (picture added) for boost control, as it works the exact same way a 3 port boost control solenoid works and I am not using it anyway.
Does anyone have experience with this? If yes, what's the frequency and min/max duty cycle of the solenoid?
Not sure if this means anything, but the MSM also has one of those Mitsubishi solenoids mounted on the cold-side, above the wheel well, along with all the EGR and vacuum control spaghetti but used a different 2-port solenoid for boost control.
The fact that Mazda already had those Mitsubishi 3-port solenoids in the car and elected to use a different one for turbo boost control surely meant something?
FOR SCIENCE, please continue to investigate this and write up your findings.
Have been running the PRC solenoid as a boostcontroller for a few days now with no issues. I haven't done a lot of tuning yet except some faster spool tuning in open loop and it seems to be working just fine. Will post more when I tuned my boost control table.
