FM Voodoo Box Tuning
I have a Voodoo box on my '99 and after I got that Nissan turbo installed yesterday I finally had the car running good and the turbo doesn't smoke the tiniest bit.(Which was the problem with my past turbo even after two professional warranty rebuilds) Anyway i decided to tune the Voodoo Box now that i have the Wideband installed. The previous owner, who bought the Vbox didn't have and wideband and never tuned it. Before any tuning adjustment I warmed the car up and took it for a run with the old settings and saw on the wideband that underboost the car was hitting like 15.5 AFR max and said WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON and started tuning adjustment immediately by adding some fuel pressure to get me rich so I could tune down safely from a rich setting instead.
So I got to tuning the Vbox and what a weird deal. It has four Potentiometers that you turn individual to adjust for different things. I finally got i tuned to stay between 10.5-12.5 under boost in midrange RPM and up to redline. This Nissan turbo sure is different than my old one. Heck the best part is it isn't blown and doesn't smoke. I set the baseline as suggested by FM and went from there. Think i'll leave it the way it is for a little while and see how it goes. Need to log some AFR's though so i can focus on driving and do a 1-5 redline gear pulls to see what i'm getting throughout the RPM band.
Anyone else tune their own Voodoo? I still have mine taped to the dash. To continue fine tuning it. Just interested in other's experiences with the black box.
