They do grab some, but they aren't designed to snag the openings in the valve cover like normal plug wires. They are more setup to just seal the opening and be bolted down.

Splitime 08-18-2007 12:52 PM

So is anyone running the COPs with their MS1 yet?

lazzer408 08-18-2007 05:17 PM

The cops are here I'm surrounded!!!

Attachment 216021

I'm pretty sure I'll get these all shipped out monday.

beerslurpy 08-18-2007 06:47 PM

Well no rush. GMPartsdirect is apparently shipping my connectors from the moons of jupiter.

ampz 08-18-2007 10:02 PM

Excellent

Did the harness come with them as well?
Or is that a teaser? :hsugh:

lazzer408 08-18-2007 10:18 PM

They threw one in for me. I need it for a friends car.

This is what I'm waiting for. :)

That and deciding whether to go PnP or DIY.

Ben 08-18-2007 11:13 PM

I had that project lined up for tomorrow (helped a friend move today, I was elected to hook up the new appliances). However on the way home after helping said friend move, my car started running like shit and I heard a "Pop". It was a fucking intercooler coupler--One of the fancy silicone ones. For the record, I've never had a problem with any of the rubber radiator hose couplers. It's always the fucking silicone couplers that blow off. (second time ever).

So tomorrow I have to fix the coupler issue, and then take SWMBO out for her birthday with her family. :td:
Never any time to do the fun stuff.

neogenesis2004 08-18-2007 11:19 PM

Well after frying a COP messing with ms2 spark mods (instead of dwelling 2.5ms it was dwelling the rest of the time and off for 2.5ms :( ) I should have my new set in on monday I am hoping. I have an MS1 ready to plug into it and swapping in the new COPs will take all of 5 seconds.

I'm pretty sure though that split told me on AIM today that the car was running fine on the COPs, his biggest issue I believe was the tach problem.

Arkmage 08-18-2007 11:57 PM

well... now I'm looking to do this... any possibility of another group buy?

-drunk.

lazzer408 08-19-2007 01:53 AM

I can get 2 more sets right now. Let me know ahead of time before you send payment.
If you have a megasquirt... Splitime is having tach issues with it. He's looking into it now and if I can get a chance to hook up with him I'll try to help figure out what the issue is.

jayc72 08-19-2007 03:18 AM

I'll take a set for sure!

y8s 08-19-2007 10:10 AM

wait... braineack claims he's got this on his MS car. dont know the status since he's been taking his head off and replacing it with another at random intervals.

'97 = no tach from coils. It won't bother me in the least.

How much are you charging per set shipped? I don't feel like digging back through a dozen pages.

New question: Has anyone tried to check their timing with these coils? I'm worried that my inductive timing light may not pick up the current in the trigger lines.

soflarick 08-19-2007 04:15 PM

Lazzer, you did the install on a 1.8l engine, the type without an external ignitor, correct?

I guess I'll tap into the coil wires and leave the OEM connectors intact since it doesn't appear that a plug is available for the 94-97 coil connector.

fmowry 08-20-2007 07:40 AM

I'll take a set too if you can get more than 2, or both sets aren't spoken for.

Y8s,
So you're gonna run this on your '01 w/Hydra?

Frank

Anyone going to answer my timing light question? This seems rather important...

Braineack 08-20-2007 06:59 PM

take your old #4 plug wire, stick in the bottom of your new coil, then into the plug....take your reading off that.

neogenesis2004 08-20-2007 07:07 PM

werd, works perfectly for me

lazzer408 08-20-2007 07:07 PM

I can get 3 more sets as of today. $70 (shipping included)

PM me with your paypal info... I want a set. What's the lead time? I need them ASAP as my stock coils took a shit on me and this is my DD.

lazzer408 08-21-2007 03:22 AM

It takes about 2 weeks to get them. One week to me and another from me to you.

I have these people wanting sets.

jayc72
Arkmage (if the wait is too long let me know)

Sorry if I missed anybody. This thread got huge.

Amount is $70 and Paypal address is Lazzer408@yahoo.com

When you send a payment please write in the note box, your name on the forum and if the shipping address your using for Paypal is correct. This makes it easy for me to keep records.
-Thanks.

Arkmage 08-21-2007 08:12 AM

You can take me off the list... I'm hunting for a faster source. My car was running like absolute shit on the way to work today and I can't let it go on any longer than necessary. I think I've got a set lined up for $85 with Fedex overnight shipping.

jayc72 08-21-2007 10:42 AM

$80 shipped to me?

Braineack 08-21-2007 11:12 AM

damn dude, you guys realize there are a shitload of set for sale on car-part.com for $50-60 shipped.

If my coils don't work, I get to bitch to Lazzer here instead of some unknown junkyard. Worth the extra $10 IMHO.

TurboTim 08-24-2007 08:37 AM

So when are we getting our coils?

y8s 08-24-2007 10:46 AM

yeah, where's my effing coils mang!?

lazzer408 08-24-2007 01:20 PM

There in the mail. Should show up everywhere next week. Our Australia friend, maybe the week after. I wasn't going to pay extra for a tracking numbers that was bs when I heard that.

Tim you should check your messages more often.

TurboTim 08-24-2007 03:38 PM

I never received any from you. Still have zero in my "inbox" and one in my "outbox", the one I sent you tuesday.

When were they shipped? Today? USPS? I'll be away for a week starting next Thursday, I hope I get them before them, otherwise the box will be sitting somewhere outside my appartment complex for a week. Fun.

lazzer408 08-24-2007 04:05 PM

tuesday via. usps

fastmonkeywheels 08-24-2007 04:05 PM

There are 18 pages here, and call me lazy but I wasn't about to read through them all.

If I understand this thread, lazzer408 is selling Camry COPs? Do they come with pig-tails, if now where's a good source for them, are they a standard plug that could be sourced form older junk-yard cars? How much?

Thanks for saving me 5 hours of possible reading.

TurboTim 08-24-2007 05:33 PM

Lazzer is selling toyota COPs, no pig tails from him but they are available, GM part numbers listed with prices and site to order (from Pontiac Vibe). Actually has anyone verified this GM parts actually do fit correctly? I know one of us ordered them. Anyways, others making their own harness, all wiring and settings expained, coil dwell too. I hate long threads but this one is fat-free and worth the read.

Arkmage 08-24-2007 07:34 PM

My coil order got screwed up... running a set of coils from my friends '99 (he put on COP last week) for now. The damn salvage yard sent me two regular coils despite asking them two very specific questions...

1) Are these COP coils?
2) Are all FOUR included in the price?

Paid $35 for fast shipping and received two regular fucking prizm coils. Now I'm going to be out $85 for shitty coils unless they let me return them. Then I'll only be out $50 for shipping.

Let this be a lesson to all of us. Buy these from Lazzer instead of getting in a hurry.

Damn it.

lazzer408 08-24-2007 07:39 PM

Sorry to hear that. Who's your friend running cop? Did he use this thread or make his own?

Arkmage 08-24-2007 10:12 PM

I helped him do it based off this thread. works like a charm... currently a 0.057 gap and running smooth.

Ben 08-24-2007 11:16 PM

You used a credit card, RIGHT?
Dispute that shit.

Have another set lazzer?

lazzer408 08-25-2007 01:03 AM

I can get 3 more if I have 3 more buyers to commit.

cjernigan 08-26-2007 01:05 AM

I'm game.

steelrat 08-27-2007 10:08 AM

Picked up a set on Friday @ the local wrecker.... Somebody else was grabbing parts while out for lunch, so I figured, ah.... what the hell, may as well get them while I was here. Not the cheapest local price, but with no shipping, plus getting them in hand in 10 mins, it was worth it....

Now I need to source the connectors. Checked with GM dealer at the same time, the coils were listing for 180 bucks new or something like that.... and I think the connectors were listing for 43 bucks or something. Will have to investigate further now that I have the actual coils.....

I already have a spare harness to re-do the injectors (broke one of the locking tabs out of the injector connector)... so I think it has everything up to the OEM coil packs too.....

Hey Lazzer, maybe we should have a "quick" summary thread that's a sticky with the part-numbers, model years, etc...... Or add somethin' to Brain's DIY FAQ......? What do you guys think?

Dave,

Braineack 08-27-2007 10:40 AM

this will be good for the archive...as im putting write-ups and resoruces there.

as far as the connectors I'm joining the epoxy crew and using .070" ecu solder contacts for the wires...

.110" female (spade) connectors work too. Shielded or unshield, if un.. just toss some shrink wrap over it.

y8s 08-27-2007 10:58 AM

there's a couple toyotas in the parking lot.....

lazzer408 08-27-2007 02:28 PM

I had considered starting a new thread about cop and cleaning it up. That will take awhile. This thread turned into a walkthru but was originally just my question if anyone did it. I couldn't wait and figured it out. =)

Hey Braineak, it that your own...personal....Jesus? Someone to hear your prayers? Someone who cares?

y8s 08-27-2007 02:33 PM

Got the coils. Now to reverse engineer that damn connector.

I forgot that I had wanted in earlier. You still got room for one more. Might as well throw another couple bucks at a project that will never end. What was it, $70? Since Y8s has his he can figure it all out for an '01 and I'll just copy his shit.
