I would like to move over to COP. Has anyone found an issue with the Toyota COP's and the dwell settings in the 1.6L link ecu?

MiaTurbo 11-28-2007 04:35 PM

COPs are sitting in the garage [happy dance]. Depending on how far I get with the maifold/turbo this weekend, I'll try to wire them up, or at least 'survey' the work ahead.

I haven't had any issues yet, but I really haven't driven the car much since I did the conversion. It runs, and I've idled and driven the car for about 15 minutes.

NeoGenesis, again, for the umpteeth time, ran Cops on his stock ECU for about 2-3 months.

Its amazing how many times I've typed that out for people.

Not only do I claim that, Scott and Brad were both witness to it when we were working on Brads diff.

I think more people would look at the shit in the archives if its name was changed to something like "Technical Documents" or some such shit. I think when noobs see archives they think, oh thats just where they stick all the old threads and shit.

At least this place is not as bad as m.net members posting, reposting, rerererererereposting the same darn questions instead of searching for a minute.

For those who are unable to change the dwell what would be the worst thing to happen over time? Would you just end up burring the stock igniter or one of the coils out? Or would the extended dwell saturate the coil and cause less of a spark?

Braineack 11-29-2007 09:55 AM

you could possibly burn out a coil. If Brian's didn't in 2 months, i doubt they would over any longer time. I'm pretty sure I touched them after he drove about an hour to my house, they weren't hot...

lazzer408 12-07-2007 09:19 AM

Long time no see. =) Hows the whole COP thing been working out?

Braineack 12-07-2007 09:22 AM

sounds good...try to keep the baby mama drama out of here, and take everything with stride.

Dhaark 12-07-2007 08:35 PM

I'm back as well...with 2 new cars. lol.
My cop harness is for sale though... I think I'll have to post it up in the for sale subforum.

jrmotorsports55 12-12-2007 07:03 AM

Well I started my install. I wanted it to be reversible in case there were problems (didn't want to cut off the stock connectors), so I got a 4 wire plug harness for a trailer. I installed the side in to the Miata harness last night (spliced/soldered), and will build the harness for the coils tonight. The only concern that I have is that the trailer harness is 14 gauge wire. Will the larger wire cause me any problems?

Thanks,

Jason

cjernigan 12-12-2007 11:26 AM

No, the larger gauge wire won't cause any issues.
Post pics.

jrmotorsports55 12-12-2007 02:08 PM

Cool, thanks.

Will do once installed.

jrmotorsports55 12-16-2007 07:21 AM

Well, I got my harness installed yesterday on my 99 with the stock ECU and Toyota coilpacks, and it fired right up, no issues at all. Purred like a kitten. I let it run for a half hour (some moron not to be named left the passenger door cracked open for a few days and killed the battery), and revved it up and down, no issues there either. Seems to be a success story here. I'd like to take it for a drive, but there is a bit of snow on the ground, and I still have to mount the coilpacks (they are just loosely sitting on the plugs now). So far, so good.

FYI: links to pics for COP how-to in the archive appear to be pointing to the old forum URLs. Great info / resource, but a little hard to follow now.

Cheers!

Jeff
