Pins
Braineak found it: TYCO 173631

Braineak - Did you have spare pin sets to sell, or no? If not, I guess I need to order 50 bajillion myself so I can use 16 of them. :)

As much to store the car in the winter as to work on it. 4-post 'cause I can move it around and it doesn't take as much height requirement. I can always use jackstands or the jack tray for brake work.

i think this will suffice for now.

Braineack,
Can I get some pins from you too if you have some left?

Thanks,
Frank

Braineack 09-20-2007 11:29 AM

yes PM if you need them.

I placed an order for 400 extra of them. That makes more than 20 harnesses. Would require $3 in paypal from you guys to cover the pins, and stamp.

cjernigan 09-20-2007 11:40 AM

Are you running on COPs yet scott?

Braineack 09-20-2007 11:47 AM

Loki047 09-20-2007 12:11 PM

How thick was the aluminum you used?

Your mani and turbine housing make me want to get mine coated.

jayc72 09-20-2007 01:25 PM

Any pictures/dimensions of the plate you made?

Braineack 09-20-2007 01:27 PM

making the plate is simple.

I used 22g alumin. (pretty thin) got a sheet for $3.99
4 nuts and bolts m6x40
1" hole saw

https://www.miataturbo.net/~web1_bra...cops_plate.jpg

i didn't take precise measurements, but that shows you what to do. I put a bit grease on each of the three valve cover bolt holes and laid my strip down. this marked the positon of each to drill out. once drilled i measured from each hole i made for the spark plug holes. very simple, something like 1.25" away center to center. can't remember. once done, I laid it down, stuck the cops in and marked the position of the tabs with a pencil. once drilled I stuck the m6 bolts up through the holes and laid it on the valve cover. put the cops over that and and bolt it down. the ruber gasket on each cop squeezes in and the nuts stay good and tight. the end.

TurboTim 09-20-2007 01:30 PM

The plate looks good, but I thought the COPs sat directly on the valve cover so that you needed to drill holes in the plate. I guess this is not true? I haven't test fitted my COPs yet obviously.

EDIT: Sorry the above post wasn't there when I started to type this reply. Good info, thanks!

EDIT 2: Damn 22 gage aluminum is 0.0253" thin. Wow.

Braineack 09-20-2007 01:46 PM

tim does this make more sense:

neogenesis2004 09-20-2007 01:49 PM

HAHA, you should get a job writing manuals for automobile companies.

Braineack 09-20-2007 01:51 PM

it would be butterz if i knew how to you autocad. but, yeah that would one badass manual that no one would use. :(

Braineack 09-20-2007 02:36 PM

yeah i know its .025" but it's enough. easy to cut and drill and it's very very secure. I mean these things aren't under pressure or anything.

Tim the connection inside the COP is a spring that contacts the tip of the plug. I haven't actually measured the depth of it but it feels like the spring is bottomed out when I installed mine against the valve cover. I'm sure there's at least 1/4" of usuable extention of the spring to allow plate mounting the COPs.
