Clutch problems - Ewhol sounds from clutch and gearbox
Not sure this is in the right forum, so move it if it is..
When I had the turbo rebuild of my 1993 last autumn, I fitted an ACT HD 6 pad unsprung clutch kit. I didn't have the tools to get the pilot bearing out, but I swapped the release bearing and the clutch disk.
Now, after 10k miles or something, the clutch starts acting up.
The symptoms are random, and as late as the ride from work today, the clutch worked as intended with no symptoms. But when I went to work and when I went to the store during my lunch break, the symptoms were worse then ever.
They seem to progress into the wrong direction, and I've only noticed them to be lacking or weaker when the weather is wet.
Symptoms:
When the clutch starts to take, I get a massive loud scratching noise, much like the noise I would expect to get when the plate starts to grab on. But being an unsprung 6 pad bastard, I usually get a jumping gearbox when I don't apply the clutch with 2k+ rpm. When the sound comes, the clutch is much softer.
When I have the car in gear, say first, and stand still, it sounds like the gears touch out of sync, much like on old cars when you put it in reverse without clutching. This is just touching, not constant, and randomly timed.
When I drive and change gears, I get a slight crush as I put it in. Much like the previous sound, like as if I wasn't using the clutch.
I've checked the clutch fluid, and the tank is full, and I can't find any leaks under the car. I've yet to check the cylinders, but without a leak, I doubt that is the issue.
I find it hard to believe that it's the clutch hydraulics, since it doesn't feel like the last time they went poopers on my Cooper.
