Hmmm not a bad idea especially if I go with dual plenums...just make a cross brace to varying appropriate lengths. A single plenum/throttle body would be easier but getting the runners the same length is tricky, unless you go with a real short (~3") straight runner with a plenum on top. I may do this just to get it running.

here is what i am doing about the intake in my situation. i have to have the stock intake to pass emissions via the obd2 port. so i decided to swap the intake 180. i know this will lose my hood space but i can get a fiber glass hood and cut it and cover it some how.
also after i boost the car i may make a ls1 style manifold myself for the car. But being that i will run the engine stock for awhile i need the intake for the torque. i would lose a lot just throwing out the stock intake.
i decided to order 6061 heat treated aluminum bars that are 3"x1-1/4x12"
that will allow me to make spacers for the intake to clear the drivers side cam gear and valve cover. i will make the spacers on a end mill then have them decked down to 1-1/16 of an inch.
here some pictures of the intake sitting spaced up with bolts just for mocking it up.
i had to grind some access material on one side and block off a vacuum port but it was not bad at all. Plus in this next picture you will see a small mounting spot that i plan to grind off also to get the some piece of mind to clear my timing belt.
also i have a g4 intake because it gives the most low end torque so after i make the spacer i will port match the intake side. And another thing i am doing is cutting the oil filler cap section off that valve cover and tig welding it to the other valve cover.
I know there are a few people that say this is all too much work. but these little things do not bother me. I have went through worse to get a engine in a car/truck.
Plus i hope i can make this an option for people wanting to follow what i did and have a little different of a miata. this engine is going to sound great and make the miata scoot pretty good for just being swapped in. After i build another lower end and boost it will really get crazy... and tear some up haha.

The ports in my heads are oval but I wanted to whip something up quick to see what different pipe shapes may look like. Injectors are "48mm" long, I found that CAD file online. I am most likely going with the even shorter LSx style injectors, probably the ID850's via Trackspeed.
This one would get a large plenum on top like an LS manifold.
Dual plenum.
This would be a longer runner and single plenum over the 'ugly' passenger side valvecover. This is kinda like the OEM manifold, and you could probably hacksaw off the OEM plenum and weld on your own, reusing the runners and flanges. But the OEM injectors are side feeds; those super short LS injectors might fit in there though with custom fuel rails. I would probably do this if my manifold match the head port shape. My intake is a KLZE, heads are KLDE.

my heads are oval and my intake is square port also but i am going to port match the one side of my spacer so there is not flow restriction. i dont want to port the oval out on the head because ive herd that the ovals are not bad.
The only reason i went with the millinia manifold was for the lower end that it helps with.
but your intake designs are very nice. Also upgrading from the side feed injectors would be an awesome leap.
i want to get the stock intake and injectors working to just pass the emissions scan then i will look into a custom manifold and better injectors. which may involve me bugging you haha. I love that you use a cad program. I have some experience with them i just have never purchased one.
i was thinking along the lines of a vk56 intake scaled down i will try to get into paint a draw up something to see if you like it. thanks for posting the information though

More info on this 500whp with precision 6265 would be great. I'm leaning towards them now, I told them what I want basically response over a '500hp' number with pump fuel, they are going to get back to me. I mentioned the 6262 (cause that's popular on the sti and evo ~2.5's and that powa level) and the phone kinda went silent, like a 'you must be smoking crack with a turbo that big' kinda silence. Basically I'm thinking my target hp with pump gas friendly psi level would require a not street friendly turbo size.
Although last weekend I saw my first E85 gas station. I was drunk so i don't remember exactly where, but it's somewhat close.
EDIT: Block still being bored. Pistons/rods/pins/rings came in a while back from Wiseco. "rear" crank adapter halfway machined yesterday. Getting stuff for cheap means waiting a very long time. Picked up the engine hoist from Paul today.
I am playing around with different intake manifold designs but I don't know how to calculate proper runner length.

Sooo he got to the 500 level using race fuel and lots of boost. Kinda granted But it's good to know how much boost it took.
I also found a thread from a few years ago with him trying out a different fabbed intake mani. He said it gained him some, but in more recent pics he's back to an OEM intake. So I dunno.

The 500whp runs were on 31-32psi on a 61mm turbo. The compression on the motor ended up about 9:1 with the JE Pistons on the S Rods.
I don't really have solid answers on the pump gas, I was just screwing around because I was tired of buying race gas. The original plan was to switch to E85 but I needed more volume than a single walbro could provide to make 500+ on E85. I tried the new aeromotive stealth 340lph at the time and it failed miserably so I went to two walbros, but that proved to be a real PITA in the mx3 so I went back to a single walbro and pump gas while I re-evaluated. Then it seized up and made my decision much easier.
For anyone interested, Walbro just released a 400lph pump that's supposed to take out the Aeromotive 340, the DW300 and the Jay Racing pumps. It doesn't out do a Bosch 044 from what I read, but an 044 is overkill for pretty much anyone with a KL.

I would be cautious of letting precision pick your turbo, one of my good friends called them and asked what turbo would be best for his v6 mustang and they told him a sc61 which didnt end up making the power he told them he wanted. Do some research and make the decision yourself. If it was my call it would be precision 6266 without a doubt, but il bet they prescribe a 6262, which i guess might not be bad with race gas or e85.

I will not be running race gas or E85, so the 500 HP target is unlikely. So I'll go with a smaller turbo that's more responsive. Even the 6262 may be too big. Precision is on my radar because I may be able to get a sweetheart deal on one.

yeah his info is here and there. no real build thread. I was talking to him tonight and forgot to get you more details.
that manifold was on an older built motor he had a few years ago, if I remember correctly he wasnt very happy with it and the newest revision had a stock mazda millenia manifold.
aside from the rods and pistons the motor was pretty much stock.
