Default 1.8 swap, intercooler piping and exhaust build

Well its time for me to get my Miata back on the road. I have got my Mk1 Link upgraded to run a boost controller, IAT, and knock sensor. Also recieved my new Begi externally gated cast manifold ceramic coated. Guess I will be getting rid of my 1.6 Etd shorty manifold for t3 if anyone is interested. Got my intercooler piping in today from Cxracing looks pretty good for the cost.

I will be prepping the 1.8 engine tomorrow by removing the flywheel and other parts that I will not be using.

Here is a link for some pics showing what I'm working with I have had this Miata since 1999 and hasn't been driven much since 2007.http://s675.photobucket.com/albums/v...nnymr22/miata/

Well unfortunately didn't get much done today just pulled the clutch and flywheel off the 1.8 engine and charged the battery back up. Hopefully tomorrow will go ahead and reinstall the computer and crank her up so I can move the car to my buddies shop to begin removing the 1.6. I will also remove anything not needed on the 1.8 and cap off the EGR. Plan to document everything with pics. Hope everyone had a good Easter. Here are the plans:
Swap 1.6 to 1.8 have FM kit for swap.
Complete upgrade of MK1 Link board has been upgraded just have to finish wiring.
Add Knock sensor
Add IAT sensor
LC-1 wideband
New Begi manifold
New Cxracing intercooler piping.
New 3" downpipe and exhaust.
New tires due to dry rotted.
New convertible top with attached rain rail.
Rewire under dash have bad rats nest from previos owner

Worked a little today on the Miata. Removed the 1.8 TB and the old motor mounts. Placed battery in Miata checked all the fluids and tried to start battery was dead attempted to jump off Miata would turn over but could not get the car to start. Also noticed that the passenger side window appears to be leaking water in to the floor board. Well guess tomorrow will try and determine why the car wont start and need to order a new battery. Hopefully will get the Miata running and over to my friends garage by friday morning so I can work on it the whole weekend.

Well got one step closer today to getting the 1.8 swapped in. Finished removing all the hoses and lines that were cut by the junkyard from the 1.8. Was able to get the Miata started today after sitting for about a year and a half. It took about an hour and a half to get it to start and run. Believe I probably need to get the injectors cleaned may be a little gunked up. Tomorrow will go ahead and block of the egr on the intake manifold and remove the carpet from the interior due to the fact I have a couple of leaks in the interior. Added a couple of more pics to my photobucket account.

i'm following this thread very carefully!!!

I have a 93 black and tan... that i just finished the swap about a month ago, and now i'm saving my pennys for boost...

I'm very interested in how you do it, and the types of power gains you achieve...

also, have you looked at the tps mod? to change from off on switch to a linear tps?

apparently 1.6 off/on tps... practically stalls the motor with hard braking....so a linear tps is required, which is a modification of the ms....

hopefully some of the experts will chime in considering i don't know much more than that...

^ how do you like the 1.8?
im thinking of swapping to a 1.8 from my 1.6 with hks cams but dont want to make less power.
im making 115 now and the car is 100% more fun to drive then it was making 93hp. your car feel a lot faster with the 1.8?

if your already committed some high dollar parts for you 1.6 keep it... just add boost... there are a lot of 1.6's out there putting a lot of power down... and 1.6's are cheaper... all around cheaper, parts, whole motors etc etc etc...

pm me if you have more questions, i don't wanna jack his thread...

Well today was a long day took about 2 and half hours to just get it to start the Miata to take it to my buddies garage. By the time I went and got some new plugs the battery was about dead and had to jump the car off to get it to start. Removed the enine and trans. Removed the old downpipe, turbo, manifold, act clutch and flywheel. Will start prepping the engine tomorrow to install and may get it bolted in. I will have some new pics tomorrow.
