Default Tire Selection

I like that you guys are supporting car forums and I love your competitive prices with "free" super fast shipping. You guys are always my first search when it's time for new tires, but this specific community seems way undeserved selection wise.

As far as street tires I'd think 90% of this forum is running 200tw 225/45/15 or 245/40/15 tires. Search 225/45/15 and the only real street option is a generation old Hankook RS3 (that's priced well above what I assume is you're #1 competitor's 225/45/15 Hankook RS4). Your site won't even let me search 245/40/15, so we're out of luck there as well. You really have zero realistic street tire options for the vast majority of this community.

Hit that #1 competitor's site and 225's give 5 solid 200tw 225/45/15 options:
BFG G-Force Rival S 1.5
Hankook Ventus R-S4
Kumho Ecsta V720
Nexen N Fera SUR4G
Toyo Proxies R1R

Try out that 245/40/15 size and you get the same options in the Rival S and R-S4.

Like I said, you guys are always my first site to check, but the last 4-5 sets of tires I've gone through have ended up coming from Tire Rack simply because Discount Tire doesn't sell anything that even competes in the size/performance category we all need. I sure would love to see a couple competitive options pop up!

FWIW, Discount won't mount a 225 on a 9" wheel.
So just buy tires where they're cheapest and easiest (tire rack) because you're going to have to take them to a mom and pop to be mounted and balanced anyway.

I agree with Erat. I use Discount for DD stuff/price matching and do all my fun stuff at more lenient local places.

I get my 225's on 9" 6UL mounted at Firestone. They have never even batted an eye at it.

What's the reasoning behind that..? I can understand not wanting to stancebro 195's on a 9" wheel but 225? How is that an issue for mounting? Genuinely curious

It's because all of the tire manufactures list 8.5" as the max rim width for the tires. A lot of shops will refuse to do it for liability reasons. I'm running 205/50/15's on 8" rims for now and have the same issues.
