Local McDonald’s Forced To Close Amid Protest For Higher Wages « CBS Detroit
day was going slow, finally got a good laugh in.
thanks, detroit.

“It’s a very uncomfortable lifestyle working for $7.40 at McDonald’s when McDonald’s made like $500 billion last year,” one protestor said.
“We’re out here fighting to raise the minimum wage and get rid of $7.40 because $7.40 an hour is not enough to take care of our kids and our families and we want to, you know, get the raise up to $15,” another protestor said.

Eh, I could go either way. No, they probably don't deserve it or do a skilled enough job to justify it. However, ignoring those who waste it on booze and drugs, the current minimum wage has been shown to not be enough to support a family.
Force people to take birth control and control population growth, now there's a good cause. It'll save them money too.

Minimum wage is plenty enough to support a family...if you give up the luxuries of TV, cell phones, single family housing, cars, eating out, disposable diapers...
....oh, and paying for other people's health insurance....
If their wage doubles, then what's to say mine shouldn't double too? In the end, everything will double in apparent value, and now their $15/hour buys no more than their $8.50/hour used to. Then where are we? I didn't even mention how sharply the unemployment rate is going to jump when employers have to justify paying $15/hour while the non-minimum wage employers hold their employees salaries at now artificially low prices, costing the minimum wage employers business because, while that burger might be 35% more expensive, I'm still only making 2% more money - so **** the burger.
If you're a minimum wage employee, it's because you are either too lazy, too dumb, too shortsighted, unwilling, unable, too selfish, or too inexperienced to make more - it's not because "the man" is trying to keep you down.

I also think to live an average life now technology has drawn away from the necessity to just spend money on food. Social connectivity and transportation is more important and costly towards the bottom line cost of living. Also the cost of getting an education has gone up like an order of magnitude faster than inflation and it is probably more important than ever.

Funny I just calculated how much per hour of my current paycheck goes to the federal government in the form of combined income and payroll tax. Right at $15 an hour!
I’m tired of my money going to subsidize low wages for the cheap *** corporations. If I was to buy a big mac sometime in the future I would not give one **** about paying 10 cents more for it. It would be a lot cheaper for me.

$6.54 actually. And the period of low minimum wage I believe really helped stagnate the economy for the middle class. Now we are all paying for welfare with our taxes so places like Wal-Mart and the giant fast food companies can pay workers less than people can survive and have a normal life on so a hand full of born with money people can get even richer without having to do anything themselves.

Since when should a job that requires 0 skill provide enough for someone to live off? The real solution here is promote education and make it affordable. We shouldn't reward people for being okay with making minimum wage and trying to live off it.
This country is taking a major **** on itself if we keep letting people think it's okay to not get a good education, or making it impossible for poor people to get a good education. Just like the people who don't look for jobs because the government is paying them to sit on their ***, there are people who won't try and work hard to improve themselves if they can live off the wage of their shitty job.
Guess what if you fail out of school because you are lazy and don't try, you don't deserve social media or transportation or whatever else extra money will you. You deserve to live a shitty life because you made shitty life choices.
