That's a pretty impressive response by the citizen. Don't know if he was carrying on his person or if the gun was in the truck, but in any case it was in his hand within about one and a half seconds of the guy coming around the corner.

Ryan_G 05-17-2013 12:10 PM

Did he just kill that guy? Damn.... I am all for this guy defending himself but it still sucks to see someone throw away their life trying to steal a fucking car.

rleete 05-17-2013 12:54 PM

Nobody forced him to be a thief.

Exactly. He made a conscience decision. The reward was greater than the risk and well he got shot.

Ryan_G 05-17-2013 01:13 PM

I understand that but I also put a high value on human life so even the death of the less than innocent bothers me. I probably would have done the same things as the driver but it would bother me.

NastyNate 05-17-2013 01:34 PM

Maybe it's my training from when I was in the USMC. I agree on plcing high value on human life, I just place more value on mine than a person trying to harm me or take my property with the threat of harm, or anyone else for that matter.

I agree with that statement except for maybe the bolded part in certain circumstances. I wasn't really trying to claim that the driver should not have shot and killed the thief.

I was just making the statement that it bothers me that it came to that in the first place. Just seeing a life end like that even if it was a justified shooting is a little chilling for me. I have not personally been around much death.

NastyNate 05-17-2013 01:48 PM

Totally understand. Being shot at, seeing people wounded, etc... Tends to shift your perception a bit

fooger03 05-17-2013 01:49 PM

If the would-be thief did not have a deadly weapon, he would likely still be alive. He didn't throw away his life trying to steal a car; he threw away his life by threatening another.

dieselmiata 05-17-2013 01:53 PM

I'm sure many of those who have been around it, particularly in wartime situations would agree that it makes you value your life even more. Among people I know, those who have not been around those situations and don't really know the pain of losing friends and family don't quite get why I and those I served with have no problem with the killing of those who seek to deprive us of life and property. I have no quarrel with justified killing because I have such a strong value for life.

Death sucks, but it is a reality of life.

That guy was screwed from the beginning. He wasn't yelling at anyone, he was getting passionate. Although, he could have paused and refocused, I dont think it would have done much.

viperormiata 05-17-2013 03:22 PM

I was waiting for him to "get angry and make a scene" but it never happened. I thought I missed something so I re-watched it. They just didn't want to listen to him.

dstn2bdoa 05-17-2013 04:34 PM

Regarding Brains video of the guy getting shot trying to rob that guy.

Props to the citizen defending himself, hopefully his homies will think twice before trying to steal at gunpoint again, they probably won't though.

I used to be like Ryan, placing a high value on all human life. Then my career

Edit: To be continued...

dstn2bdoa 05-17-2013 04:54 PM

Then my career exposed me to years of seeing honest citizens, deprived of their life and liberty by low life's who have ZERO respect for others. They laugh and mock at the harm they perpetrate on others. Normal people cannot understand this until they see it for themselves, the lack of concern for the well being of others is truly disturbing, and I am not exaggerating. If they (the thieves) had killed the citizen there would have been no remorse.

In my opinion, every time someone like that dies while inflicting their greed, and desire to steal what others have worked hard for, the world is better off.

Disarming Realities: As Gun Sales Soar, Gun Crimes Plummet - Forbes

samnavy 05-18-2013 08:16 AM

Don't ever make the mistake of thinking a thief is just stealing property. "It's a shame that guy had to die over a car" is a non-argument.

A thief is not only stealing whatever the inanimate object in question happens to be, but also a piece of that persons liberty and freedom.

In the event of a mugging/carjacking, the thief also expects his victim to surrender their power and control over their own lives to accomodate him.

Many people (like me) feel that we have not only the right, but the obligation to defend ourselves from such people, and that those who allow themselves to be victims are complicit to a certain degree.

MILLER: Maryland Gov. O'Malley may be smiling over gun-control law, but last laugh is on him - Washington Times

So MD, "The Free State" is now a much safer place to be. Interesting read in the second link from Emily Miller about Beretta's role in the final draft of the legislation. Of course, just like in CT/NY/CO, the legal battles over this are going to last for years.
